Not only is it a big help for getting some consistency in presentation, but the automatic totalling and percentage calculation has helped identify several errors in the tables (both from editors mistranscribing numbers from sources, and mistakes in the sources themselves) by comparing the automatically-calculated totals/percentages with those given in the original tables/sources. Nomination for deletion of Template:Location map Kingdom of Hungary

From my talk page back in september.

Bugger bugger bugger, I saw a map in the transport museum in budapest we went the other week and it had the lat and long but in pretty much a mercator projection. My missus was more interested with the toy trains so I didn't get a chance to take the measures off it. If it's wrong (as it is) it should be deleted but I am still trying to get the measures right. The thing is it's specifically Kingdom of Hungary, but the more atlases (atli? :) I look at the more different lats and longs I get. And anything one does on Hungarian articles is rather contentious, so it is probably really better deleted. Because people whose great grandfathers were part of the Kingdom of Hungary will say no that's Croatia or Slovakia or Slovenia or Yugoslavia or Jugoslavia or The People's Republic of East Kebab. Since Hungarian politics is very contentious and goes on racist grounds in far more than would be allowed in where I come from, this is better off deleted. (Hint: say Treaty of Trianon to a Hungarian and await results.) Si Trew (talk) 09:36, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

I never did get round to this. I took the coords off of file at right, which is very high quality but seems to have an odd idea of where 0 longitude is (it suggests it is east of Paris, but that didn't seem to work). As you suggested, I tried to take well-known points at the edges of the map: Fiume, for example, at south-west. I took very good readings after printing out this map at A0 size and using ruler and compass, my trig is quite good, but I could never get it to fit. Si Trew (talk) 06:02, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Maproom, thanks for the tip. I have written code for generating coefficients for nonlinear projections if I know the functional form. but, the code requires at least as many reference points as there are coefficients. basically a nonlinear least-squares algorithm. the problem here is that other than the reference markings on the side of the map, it's tough to get reference points in the middle. How many do you need in the middle? You get get a reference point near each corner by specifying where the nearest line of (Paris) longitude would cross the nearest line of latitude, and use towns like Szolnok (which Google Earth says is 47°10'N 20°11'E Greenwich) in the middle. Just a thought, maybe not very coherent at this time of night. Using an ethnographic map as a location map may, as Si Trew pointed out, be contentious. Will it help if instead I upload to Commons this map? It uses a Ferro meridian, which is no worse than Paris, and shows enough towns such as Szolnok for central reference points. Thanks for pinging me in on this. I know it was a long time ago. User:Maproom, yes I did guess it was the Paris Meridian all that time ago, but that didn't seem quite to fit either. Since then I took something and with Inkscape made a four-colour map (five if you include Lake Balaton as a fifth colour, blue, but could have been made a fourth colour as those that surround it are all in three other colours, it is just more pleasant to have it in blue but not mathematically necessary) and split out all the layers and borders and so on into separate layers on the SVG. I seem to recall I called it Template:Location Map Hungary2 or something – and I emphasise this is not the Kingdom of Hungary but the modern-day Hungary. All I had left to do was get the text labelling right. Searching for "a new look for an old map" was something roughly want some commenter said, may well have been User:Frietjes here but may not have been (a long time ago, just going from memory: and those exact words are what was printed on the front of the first H C Beck fold-up London Underground Diagram (often called "Map"; Beck himself never called it a map: I have good references for this from publications of the London Transport Museum in woodware) of 1933, so I am probably confusing those words with the same sentiment expressed. This is all such a long time ago, I give as hints for those who can search better than I.

On the plus side, by pure coincidence (these are not common around here in Budapest) my local pub has a nice 1898ish German (I think) map of Austria-Hungary; certainly pre-Treaty of Trianon. This is a five or six colour map and I am pretty sure it is in German but I am going from memory, I don't think it's in Hungarian. It would be about 40 by 25 inches (1,020 mm × 640 mm) and I daresay somehow I could get it scanned in, in one of the largescale printers in the town (who I happen to be also on good terms with, for various other reasons) or just take four A3 scans and stitch them with photoshop, assuming that my scanner doesn't distort too much. I am on good terms with the landlord as I have given him my British registration plates and various other British pub memorablia, it is that kind of pub, very much a "local", so I can ask to borrow the map (it's framed) or just go in on a quiet afternoon with a straightedge etc and try to get some measures off that. I think it is not the same as the image is here, though quite similar. As a start shall I get the maker etc, would that help at all, before I do the trig etc off it? I have a very good straightedge and fifty quids worth of setsquare adjustable protractor that I use for technical drawing on my A0 drawing board, it's about 25 inches (640 mm) long on its hypotenuese, which should be enough to measure angles and distances with some kinda veracity, I am not sure of the projection without looking again. Is it worth me taking a look and reporting back, probably will be about UTC+2 Friday tomorrow, else Monday? If you give me some nice trig points "in the middle" I will do my best to give you the readings off of them. These won't be 100% accuracy but will be within a second of arc or two through the distortion of the glass in the frame, I would imagine. Si Trew (talk) 16:05, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

I understand if it is WP:COPYVIO etc but if I check the maker first, it may very well turn out not to be because of the date and also various other "things that have happened since", could well be PD or fair use. I think I check the maker first, that is clear enough in top right corner but don't remember offhand. Would that be of any use, at least to confirm or deny if it's the same as this one? File:Hungary_location_map.svg is the one I made the four-colour svg version of. It just needs tidying on the text labels layer if I remember right, I can't remember its name. The computer it was on is long gone. File:Hungary location map2.svg? Something like that. We have File:Hungary location map-2.jpg on Commons, but that's not it, cos it's not four-colour and has labels in Cyrillic, is a jpg not an svg. Perhaps unfortunately it got deleted as unused. I'd need to ask an admin to dredge from about 2009 onwards. Users working on it would have been mostly me and perhaps occasionally the missus, no longer editing at Wikipedia for many a year due to very harsh and undeserved comments after excellent translations of English articles about the Tudors into HU:WP (something she is an expert in, more than I know and I'm bloody English): Her username was/is User:Monkap. OK, the map you included wrongfooted me, this is exactly the map that is nominated (duh!) I was looking at the map you included on the right. No, don't give up on it, I'll try to fix it. It is nearly OK, all the coords and borders and counties etc are done on separate labels and I think it is much better than the boring brown map transcluded via {{Infobox Hungarian settlement}}. We just need to fix the edges and fix the text-label layer for some reason the font doesn't scale properly, I never did work out why, I shall try again. One reason to separate into different layers in a good GIS fashion is so that with a flick of the wrist one can turn off all the labels, turn off e.g. the county borders, make all the counties brown and just fill one particular county in a different colour (for Hungarian county articles) etc etc etc. I hand-edited the XML for the SVG to make it all nice, it's much much nicer than its predecessor for putting into a GIS etc because each county edge and county border and county name etc is labeleed in a very consistent fashion. The underlying SVG is File:Kingdom_of_Hungary_counties-2.svg. The polygons for the borders go actually in a kinda "cogwheel" order so that some going anticlockwise have their boundaries against the others going clockwise, rather in a toothed gearwheel manner, but that was just my pedantry; each county actually has its own borders as it did on the original, but on the original the borders for e.g Budapest to Pest County were a bit different from the borders of Pest County to Budapest, i.e. there was a gap or overlap, which now there is not in "my" version, they have all the coordinates bang on, as I did them all in hand in the XML not with some "snap it roughly to where it looks right" tool. All the bordering points have the same coords but the opposite directions (clockwise or widdershins) which helps the SVG polygon fill get it right without overlap or gap.

I think we should keep it and try to fix the labels and the "fix" coordinates for it. I suppose this was a labour of love but I think it does make it better than what is used in the infobox, it scales except for the text labels and the old one has errors in the border coords that leave gaps or overlaps, it just doesn't seem so at the scale used in infoboxes, as the rendering of the borders and the pushpins for the places are far larger than the errors, at even a large-screen resolution scale. The text labels are fine on my I think 1972 across screen in full view. When I made this I think I had a 1024x768 screen. It's when the labels are all squished they don't scale down properly, and get all scrunched up, I have never quite worked out why. What was going on and what did you do on 2015 Damallsvenskan? I do not recall that the older revisions were such a mess with the league table and broken (?) templates.

• User:Mango från yttre rymden the Template:2015 Damallsvenskan table was replaced with Module:Sports table per this discussion (and prior discussions) and the Template:Fb r templates were replaced by Module:Sports results per this discussion. the {{Football in Sweden}} template is supposed follow WP:BIDIRECTIONAL, which means that all the pages that transclude the navbox should have a link in the navbox, and all pages linked in the navbox should transclude the navbox. there was also some discussion about this at WT:FOOTY at one point in time. you can check this bidirectionality using this search which currently shows quite a few articles which could be linked in the navbox, or which should not be transcluding the navbox. I'm not very initiated in the inner workings and developments of Wikipedia's technicalities, but from what I can gather, in layman's terms, an old sports table system was replaced with a new one. And when the old templates were deleted, the table vanished from the article and left lots of dead code in it.

You, on the other hand, seem very initiated in the matter, and as you also touched on 2020 Damallsvenskan I will take the opportunity to explain myself. I tried to combine all elements of a WDL table into one, using sports rbr table (I don't know how to link to it or even find it anymore), but it clearly isn't designed for that, so I had to haxx it together. I thought we could try that and see what people think, and if people are positive, some(one) could write some proper code for it. I forgot to mention it in the edit summary.

Why did you change the "style" parameter on the standings table from football to WDL? Is that what it's called now? It's a standings table, not a WDL table, very unintuitive and confusing.

Mango från yttre rymden, the style template is Module:Sports table/WDL where WDL = "win draw loss" since not all football seasons have draws. there is also Module:Sports table/WL for football seasons without draws. if there is a problem with Module:Sports rbr table, let me know and I can work on it, but so far it seems to be working for 99.9% of all football articles which have round-by-round results tables. I see now about the style parameter.

I was using this example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Module:Sports_rbr_table#Example_3:_Team_combined_table but with all teams in the division in one single table, not just one team with the team name put in the table title like the example shows. The module clearly isn't really made for what I was doing in 2020 Damallsvenskan. It works, but I kinda had to duct tape it together with lots of label rows with a new number for each row, making it difficult to keep track of what value is for what team. Would be much easier if all values regarding one team had the same number. Like "Ground1" and "Position1" perhaps. Do you see what I'm going for? Could it be modified into what I would like to have it, or something like it? If you are a coder I'm sure you can come up with a good solution, but I'm not sure I have made myself apprehensible. The whole concept is quite ambitious from a user and article standpoint, but I thought it could be tried at least. Improving Template:Location map

Hello. Seen from Munich I'm thinking of improve {{Location map}} for its radio buttons. For {{Infobox settlement}}, I saw all labels with radio buttons always centered as in Template:Infobox settlement/testcases, to my eyes, they should be centered in a block area and all radio button aligned to the left, like what I did for the legend of {{Western dress codes}}. The easiest way to do it is to create the category page using {{unknown params category}}, with the name of the template as the first parameter. Jolicnikola, we could make the module format and color penalty shootout data, but we need to decide on (1) the input format, and (2) the output format. once that is decided, then I can write the lua expressions to parse it. for example, should the penalty score be inside a <sup>...</sup> or should it be below the score or ...? MassPurge not working for me

I have been making good use of your MassPurge script/special page for many years now. Sometime in the last few months, it has stopped working for me. I can paste e.g. Template:Eutheria into the upper box and press the upper Purge button, and the bottom box will populate with the list of articles, but the count, e.g. 1/31, never begins. This used to happen to me occasionally, and reloading the page would fix it, but now it happens every time. If I paste a list of pages into the bottom box and click the lower Purge button, it either does not start counting, or it errors with "Failed edits: Template:Eutheria: Invalid CSRF token." (The best I can find about that error message is this message from June 2021.) Based on what I can decipher from that message, it looks like changing "/api.php?format=json&action=query&prop=info&intoken=edit&titles=" to "/api.php?format=json&action=query&prop=info&meta=tokens&titles=" or something like that. It basically signifies that infobox succession links are fine, so isn't very useful and clutters articles' hidden categories sections. Infobox maps

Some infoboxes use push_pin maps and some have switched to OSM maps. I think both have their merits. I see that {{infobox German place}} has both, but with the OSM map in the image_map field and hidden by default e.g. Heidelberg-Bergheim (which even has another map in the image field). I think a better approach would be to have an OSM map as the first radio button with the push_pin maps (I'm talking generically, not in the above template specifically). Would this be difficult? If not, would you be willing to mock-up and example? MB 17:15, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

That idea was your suggestion of four years ago. It looks like JmcB did some preliminary work. His sandbox is still around, but he is MIA for 9 months now. He was talking about modifying IB settlement. I was thinking of trying this first in {{infobox nrhp}}. There are tens of thousands of NRHP articles, most with push-pin maps. Ideally, it would all be done in the template, so these articles would display the OSM map in the map switcher with no editing of the articles necessary. MB 03:00, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

Infobox legislative election

I've been trying to figure out how to turn off the 'leader' and 'percentage' columns in this infobox (as sometimes they are unknown or not needed), but can't figure out how the switcher works (there is one already in the template to turn off the seat change column when first_election = yes). If you had some time to look at how it could be done (potentially using something like "nopercentage = yes" or "noleader = yes"), that would be great. How to convert a results tables without your help?

Convert fb match table (makes old fb r templates) Inspect/fix results Convert fb (makes Module:sports_results) Inspect/fix results Convert fb match table (removes <!-- FB ... --> comments) Fix footnotes Remove any |match_AAA_BBB=null (depending on your preference)

Because I see you don't work on the weekends, holidays, in some other cases and that you only work at certain times I would ask you to answer me on a question how to convert a results table without your help? Jolicnikola, I had been doing a lot of it by hand, but have now started automating the process (something I had been meaning to do anyway). here is how you can do the conversions yourself ...

1. install the User:Frietjes/fbmt.js script (converts the tables to the old {{fb r}} templates)
2. install the User:Frietjes/fb.js script (converts the old {{fb r}} templates to Module:sports_results)
3. open your sandbox page in edit mode and you should see buttons for "Convert fb match table" and "Convert fb" in the "Tools section"
4. click on the "Convert fb match table" link first and it _should_ do the first part of the conversion. this step has to complete the conversion before you can do the next step.
5. once you are sure that everything has been converted, then click on the "Convert fb" link next.
6. if you see some pop alerts that just flash and don't stay on the screen and the templates aren't converted, the click the "Convert fb" link again.
7. if you see an alert like "Changing XYZ" to "XYZ9" due to abbreviation collision, this means that one of the tables had the same abbreviation for two different teams. I suggest fixing the problem and re-running the conversion.
8. if you see an alert like "Incomplete reverse table conversion!" this is probably normal, and is due to the script leaving a bunch of FB LINK: comments to allow you to manually check to make sure that the abbreviations and names match. in most cases you don't need to check these.
9. to remove all the FB LINK: comments, you can click on the "Convert fb match table" link a second time, and it will remove all comments that start with FB in caps.
10. you will need to fix any footnotes by hand (i.e., move the <sup>...</sup> text at the end of the table to the various match_AAA_BBB_note = parameters).

Note that if you see other stuff not mentioned here, like it shows you a partially converted table, let me know so I can adjust the script. Also, I would suggest starting by running it on one section at a time until you are familiar with how it is functioning. after that you can try to run it on the entire page in one go. one thing that will probably need to be adjusted is the various forms of "Home / Away". I put in the two that you have there right now, but I am sure there are others.

Multiple-Image Template on Fandom Wiki?

I'm a longtime editor on the One Piece Fandom-wiki, and I've been trying to get the Multiple-Image template there to behave for weeks now, to ever-diminishing results. In particular, I just can't write something long in the footer and have the text wrap once it hits the width I've designated; it keeps going as far as it can go (stretching the whole image display out in the process) and only then starts wrapping.

Hi, sorry for the belated reply - I took your advice into consideration and tried to kludge around some more with the Wiki's specific form of the template (editing in max-width parameters for both the thumbinner div and the footer div), but no soap. Now, as if solely to taunt me, the page previews make it look like I'm making some progress, only for the actual page to tell me that, no, the footer's still dragging the whole box as wide as the page will let it.

UPDATE: I took the easy way out and just imported the source module on the Dev Wiki (https://dev.fandom.com/wiki/Global_Lua_Modules/Multiple_image) lock-stock-and-barrel. This is... the closest I've come to what I want to see, though there are still shortcomings - like the fact that neither the Template nor the Module pages on the Wiki can really be customized anymore. The second link I put up there (https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/Chapters_and_Volumes#Translation_and_Dub_Issues) has examples of what I have and (roughly) how I want it to look. Basically, the small one that's captioned "Five Luffy-less volume covers." is my ideal (barring the weird height of the footer, which I hope to also fix); the big one that compares the three different volumes is the one I'm focused on fixing - there's no box "outline" around the images, and having played around with the background color parameter, I've realized that putting the alignment as "center", for whatever reason, makes it interpret the entire width of the page as my background.

The module I'm using is here (https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/Module:Multiple_image), taken directly from what you typed up over on the Dev wiki. I've played around with other people's imports on various other Fandom wikis, and they all seem to have this problem; the one that really looks the way I want it to is the one on MediaWiki.org (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Module:Multiple_image), but as that's not a Fandom Wiki all my attempts to import it haven't gone well. From what I can see, you're replacing the class where it's not semantic with the appropriate styles and with your new creation Module:Navbox top and bottom (I don't get what that module is doing at all 🤭) where semantic. Hi Izno, I replaced a few uses of navbox classes outside of navbox since it looks like the plan is to move the navbox classes from Common.css into a Navbox templatestyles? If I did something wrong, please let me know. As far as I can tell, the functionality of Module:Navbox top and bottom is described in the documentation for Template:Navbox top (makes it easier to embed tables inside of a navbox). Since Module:Navbox top and bottom calls Module:Navbox it should not require any updates if templatestyles are implemented. Similar story for other modules that call Module:Navbox like Module:Navboxes. Please let me know if I am not understanding the situation. Thanks! Module:Gridiron color/data

Do you think it would be possible to delete Template:Gridiron tertiary color raw from Module:Gridiron color/data? What I would like to do is make Module:Gridiron color/data more like Module:Sports color/baseball or Module:Sports color/basketball. I would like to see if I can implement a |border=2 wiki-code formatting in the |basestyle= formatting for NFL/CFL team templates. Would you please help me? Charlesaaronthompson, have you asked Ahecht? from what I can see the tertiary color call is used to get the third column in the list of colors. this color may be the same as fourth column, or it may be the same as second column. I don't know if you want to get rid of the third column in the data template to reduce it to four columns from five, or if you want to just get rid of the tertiary color raw template. if you just want to get rid of the template, it looks like it is only used in about five places. however, the third column is used for the border color in many places. @Charlesaaronthompson I just consolidated all the wiki-code gridiron templates into a single Lua module, I didn't come up with the original primary/alt primary/secondary/alt secondary/tertiary scheme, so I'm not sure what the intention was with 5 options as opposed to the four for baseball or basketball. That said, I'm not sure how removing it helps you with what you're trying to accomplish. NFL templates already call {{Gridiron alt primary style}} which supports adding |border=2. --Ahecht (TALK

I'm pretty sure that at the least the templates for primary, secondary and tertiary can be merged into one and handled like {{Basketball color}} which accepts the column number as a parameter. As you can see, eliminating that column is not straightforward, as tertiary isn't always equal to alt primary. layout help

In Charles Churchill (satirist), there is a image in the "Friendship with Wilkes" section that is displayed left, but isn't immediately under the section header. Something is forcing it to start after the image on the right that follows the infobox. I have tried {{clear}} but that doesn't help. I have had this problem before and never figured it out. User:MB, if you have a right floating object followed by a left floating object, the left floating object cannot float above the right floating object. so, the "A satirical engraving of ..." image is blocking the "The Painter and his Pug" image from floating above it. the easiest solution is to switch the ordering of these two images. alternatively, you can group the right floating objects inside a {{stack}} (see the explanation in the documentation for that template) but that only works well if all the objects being stacked together have the same width. if the objects have nearly the same width, it still works well, but the width of the stack is set by the widest member. I see, so you're merely subst'ing or otherwise copying content previously held in a template that was (in the case of this template at least) unsourced, and about to be deleted. I understand your point, i.e., "I'm only implementing the Tfd result here, and disinterested about the content", but it does raise an interesting question regarding WP:BURDEN, since the Tfd outcome was the result of a consensus of multiple users, but only a single userid can be responsible for content of a given edit (you, in the Hungary case). I guess from a practical point of view, that doesn't matter, at least for articles that have sufficient watchers, like Hungary does, but an "innocent" Tfd-result-implementer could in theory get stuck with responsibility of "having a pattern of adding unsourced content", some of which never gets resolved. Proper attribution is only that—attribution, per licensing requirements—and does not somehow undo WP:Verifiability requirements or shift it to someone else who originally added the material in some other page or template, or even on the same page.

Regarding the attribution, I think I would've written the edit summary differently to make it clearer what was going on here, linking the Tfd, and briefly explaining or linking why the list-format userid attribution is required instead of the boilerplate, "copied from FOO" recommended at WP:CWW (i.e., because the history would no longer be available post-delete), perhaps something like:

• Attribution statement in fulfillment of [[WP:COPYRIGHT|licensing requirements]]: Content in this edit was originally created by users [[User:User1]], [[User:User2]], ..., [[User:UserN]] and has been [[WP:CWW|copied]] here from [[Deleted Pagename]] as a result of [[WP:xxxxxx|this delete discussion]].

Had I seen something like that, I would have understood what was going on, and wouldn't have left you this message. Maybe this somewhat infrequent edge case should be specifically covered at CWW,with a recommended boilerplate message format included there, to save everyone the trouble of how to handle it in a manner that is clear and compliant with our licensing requirements, since clearly the current boilerplate of "Copied from FOO, please see that page for attribution" does not work for deleted pages. generally it's unused or single-use templates that are merged with the parent article before deletion. sharing prose between articles using templates is discouraged in favor of WP:LST. but, if there is a case where the content ends up in template space, the preferred method is to (1) move the content to article space, (2) merge the content referencing the new location in article space, (3) redirect the new article space location to the place where it was merged. this keeps all the attribution behind a redirect with {{R from merge}} on the redirect page.
