Information icon Hi Velthuru! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Cippus Perusinus that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Who would you deem to be a reliable source.I have been studying everything Etruscan for 33 iyears I came to teach not to learn. I respect everybody's view but I expect the same in kind. Velthuru (talk) 10:09, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A FORWARD to my studies in the Etruscan Language.
My studies in the Etruscan Language started when I read a book written by Earnst Doblehoffer entitled "Voices in Stone" which described events that led to the decipherment the ancient languages and scripts . In the last chapter he listed the scripts that were still to be deciphered  and I chose the Etruscan language as he said there were  10,000  inscriptions to work with.He also mentions it contained Latin so I trolled the Etruscan  for the Latin. Both Latin and Etruscan names in many cases are semantic which means they are words from their vocabulary having a meaning, these are the bi-lingual we have to work with. The best source for the names is a book entitled " The Vocabulary Studies in the Romanization of Etruria".Here is a sample; Olsadi . A f . Pom . Firmo .
In this example Olsadi does not provide a meaning, I take Pom for Pomi Latin for fruit, and lastly Firmo gies a difinate meaning:"
firmo", firmare, firmavi, firmatus, to strengthen, harden; support; declare; prove, confirm, establish.
Many of the names aren't semantic, but many are, so its a matter of working your way through them and finding the the meaning of the Latin word and then the Etruscan word they match up with.A sample of this is from Caere. The name is Polio which means "to polish" in Latin and appears to cognate with punces or ponces. The name "Buria" from Perugia means "plow beam" and corresponds to Etruscan "aprine" or "abrine" ( point that with a vowel and you get aburine ) which will have the same  meaning.
This method was first demonstrated with the word "scribonus" which has as its root, scribo-scriptus to write and corresponds to Etruscan zicu or zico, zico being the noun and zic the verb.
The first book of reference I used for years was "Materials for the study of the Etruscan Language" prepared by MURRY FOWLER  and RICHARD GEORGE WOLFE .
My success in determining  some of the meanings only came when I began to use Whilliam Witaker's  Latin WORDS programme. Also google translate is a  good tool to work with.My major source for the inscriptions  now is  http://etruscaphilologia.eu   by ADOLPHUS ZAVARONI.
It was Adolphu's work by which I was able to source the inscriptions on the wine vessels. Velthuru (talk) 11:28, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
