DAWS is the alias of Natalie Daws, an Australian DJ and music producer. Originally from Perth, she moved to Melbourne in 2018 and released her debut EP as DAWS in May 2023. Her music style is associated with House, Tech House, Techno and Ambient.

Career

Growing up, both parents supported Natalie to play piano and guitar. She had her first contact with electronic music as a child through the music video TV programme Rage. By 15 she became influenced by electronic music such as Basement Jaxx and Paul Johnson and began making CDs with songs she liked to share with friends.

After high school, she began working as a door-girl at a local club to combine her interests with music and nightlife culture. It was there that she became aware of the viability of DJing as a career.

She began her career as DJ in 2014 by making mixes of music from her collection of compilation CDs and music she had downloaded from Youtube. Natalie uploaded these initial mixes to Soundcloud under the name DAWS.

In 2016, she started experimenting with production by making beats using in Ableton. While studying at university, she used the money saved from working and enrolled in a part-time music production course at to improve her music production skills.
