Chris Hayes is an American guitarist and songwriter. From 1979 to 2001, he was a member of Huey Lewis and the News.
Biography
Hayes joined Huey Lewis and the News in 1979. The News' sound draws upon early pop, rnb, doo-wop, blue-eyed soul and new wave.[1][2][3] They had many top ten hits in the 1980s, including "Do You Believe in Love", "Heart and Soul", "I Want a New Drug", "The Heart of Rock & Roll", "If This Is It", "Hip to Be Square", "I Know What I Like", "Doing It All for My Baby" and "Perfect World". Chris co-wrote "I Want a New Drug" and "Power of Love", the latter was their first number one in the US.[4][5] Hayes was in USA For Africa, and sang in the chorus for the charity single We Are the World.
In 2001, Hayes announced his retirement, to focus more on his family.
“I had a son who I didn’t see that much because I was traveling. Then I got a divorce and stopped drinking – things had gotten out of hand. When I hit 42 and started a new family, I decided I wanted to be present for my children. Being on the road with a band is no way to raise kids. It was time to change everything, so I did.”

The chapter reads as a review evaluating the qualities in Huey Lewis' albums— some are New Wave... some bring out his quintessential bluesiness— and these shifts in musical style of this bands are as much 'events' in the novel as anything happening in the lives of the characters.
