Although this article says that Las Vegas developed from the McMasters property, histories from UNLV and elsewhere say that Clark's townsite was the winner. See https://special.library.unlv.edu/aae/westside-history-spotlight. "The Clark Townsite is present day downtown Las Vegas. It was bounded by 5th Street on the east to Main Street on the west and Clark Street on the south to Stewart Street.[1] The competition began. Clark’s ads touted the easy availability of water, while McWilliams sold between 2000 and 3000 lots assuming that the nearness of the natural springs would ensure his success. However, the railroad company established the Las Vegas Land and Water Company, laid out the Las Vegas Townsite east of the tracks, and held an auction to sell lots in May 1905. Many of McWilliams’ residents and businesses moved across the track,s leaving that original Townsite with a small group of permanent dwellers. The majority chose to leave. They erected permanent structures put them on skids and dragged them across the tracks to the new Townsite." Meaning of Las Vegas
Las Vegas is not a Spanish word. The meadows is los prados. José de México (talk) 22:04, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- Las Vegas is Spanish. La vega means "fertile plain or lowland; water meadow." There are many towns in Spain and other countries named Vega, Vegas, or Las Vegas. https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vega https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegas AndyBloch (talk) 07:05, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Why is the 2017 shooting in the see also section? it should be in the history section. Kennev123 (talk) 02:16, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: The link is in the See also section because that's what the See also section is for. As for why there isn't any mention in the History section, see Wikipedia:Summary style; the history section cannot contain every single event that has happened in the city without unnecessarily bloating the article. The event is mentioned (albeit briefly) in the independent articles Timeline of Las Vegas and History of Las Vegas. Liu1126 (talk) 03:08, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
