Park Ji-sung (Korean: 박지성; born February 5, 2002), also known mononymously as Jisung is a South Korean singer, dancer, and actor. Park began his career as a child actor, model and dancer, as part of the Nam Hyun-Joon and Kids dance crew.[1] He became a trainee under SM Entertainment in 2013 and was part of its pre-debut trainee team SM Rookies. Park would make his idol debut in August 2016 as a member of South Korean boy group NCT through the sub-unit NCT Dream.[2][3]
Early life
Park Ji-sung was born on February 5, 2002, in Seoul, South Korea.[4] He graduated from Mia Elementary School and attended Gireum Middle School.
Career
2009–2013: Career beginnings
In 2009, he started learning popping from Nam Hyun-joon and continued to be active in his dance crew, until he was 11 years old.[1][4] Park also worked as a child actor and appeared in various television dramas, films, and commercials.[4]
In addition to performing with dance crews and as a backup dancer for artists, Park also appeared as a child actor in several TV dramas, films, and commercials,[1] including the 2010 KBS2 children's program TV Kindergarten Funny Funny,[5] the drama Tree with Deep Roots, and films Crossbow War[6] and Go, Stop, Murder (2014).[7] In 2013, Park represented South Korea in the CCTV International Children’s Concert held in China.[8]
2013–2015: SM Rookies
In 2013, Park participated in the Mnet dance program Dancing 9[6] and was subsequently scouted by an SM Entertainment talent agent.[9] As his mother was a fan of TVXQ and SHINee, he agreed to audition and successfully became a trainee under SM Entertainment.[6] On December 17, 2013, he was publicly revealed as part of SM Entertainment's pre-debut trainee team SM Rookies.[10][11]
From 2014 to 2015, Park participated in the "SMTown Week" and "SMTown Live World Tour IV" world concert tours.[12] In July 2015, he appeared in TVXQ's U-Know's music video "Champagne".[13][14][12] In 2015, he was a cast member of Disney Channel Korea's The Mickey Mouse Club[15][12] during his time as an SM Rookies member.[16][1] In 2016, he filmed the reality show NCT Life in Bangkok.[17]
2016–present: Debut with NCT Dream and solo activities
On August 25, 2016, Park officially debuted as a member of NCT Dream with the single "Chewing Gum".[18][19][20]
In May 2018, Park participated in JTBC's Why Not? The Dancer,[1] filming the show in Los Angeles, America, with his seniors, Eunhyuk and Taemin from SM Entertainment and Lee Gi-kwang.[21] In September 2018, Park participated as a contestant on the KBS dance survival show Dancing High[22] winning 9th place in the first episode.[23]
In 2020, due to a knee injury, Park was not present for NCT 2020 Resonance promotions.[24] Park became the youngest K-pop idol double-million album seller, with the release of 2021's Hot Sauce album.[25]
