Tekken 6 (鉄拳6) is the upcoming installment of Namco's Tekken series, which will be released in Winter 2007.
Trailers
At E3 in 2005, a teaser video featured Jin Kazama demonstrating some martial arts moves. Jin's skin showed different scars and shades, giving it a sense of realism. Sweat could be seen evaporating from Jin's body and going down his face. At one point, when he touches his flesh, it moves along with the movement of some sweat droplets. The video portrayed a similar dynamic look that Tekken has followed over the years.
At E3 in 2006 a second trailer begins showing Lili, armed with an umbrella or parasol, walking through a forlorn desert village. In the next scene, Jin suddenly careens through the wall of a church, and Lili follows closely behind, goading him into battle. The two fight and manage to land a few blows on one-another before being interrupted by Hwoarang crashing through a stained glass window on his motorcycle. Taking advantage of Jin's distraction, Lili kicks him high into the air, allowing Hwoarang to leap from his bike and crash it into the airborne Jin. The motorcycle explodes, prompting Jin to transform into Devil Jin. Devil Jin attacks the pair, but Hwoarang races forward and lands several kicks on Devil Jin, forcing Devil Jin to retreat back into the air. Incensed, he fires a blast of energy from the third eye on his forehead, causing the church steeple to fall towards Hwoarang and Lili.
In February of 2007, Namco released a third trailer. This new trailer featured actual gameplay footage of Tekken 6 and introduced two completely new characters: Zafina and Leo. The trailer also showcased many of the new stages and locales the game will take place in, as well as an expanded character-customization feature. Finally, the trailer ends with Bryan Fury, as he uses a shotgun to finish a juggle combo.
Content and New Features
Director Katsuhiro Harada (who also directed Tekken 5) said that Tekken 6 will retain all of the elements from Tekken 5 and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection that were well-received by fans. He also said that the stages will be bigger and will have more interactivity and the character customization feature will be more involved with gameplay.[1]
New Features include
- New stage features include multi-tiered stages and daylight/nighttime transitions (depending on stage)
- An improved customization option with even more items
- New 'Rage' system (if a characters' life bar becomes low, they will be in 'Rage' mode, have fire around their fists - similar to the charge technique, and posses more power)[citation needed]
- Item-Move, in which a character uses an item with which they attack the opponent (ex. Bryan uses a shotgun, Anna kicks her shoe, etc)
- Online Multiplayer versus http://ps3.ign.com/articles/805/805665p1.html
Characters
Harada has stated that Tekken 6 will boast the greatest number of characters ever seen in a Tekken game with a total of 40 characters.[1] According to Namco, virtually all of the Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection characters will be returning with new additional characters. [citation needed] So far, three new characters have been confirmed. The first character, Zafina is an Indian female who will have moves Harada likened to that of a "spider"[1] and who enters the tournament to prevent the clash of the "two evil stars".[citation needed] The second character, Leo, is a German who is intended to be a character which can be played by beginners and experienced players alike.[1] The third character, Miguel, is a Spaniard with a passion for fighting but no real discipline.[citation needed] The developers also stated in the interview, that there is also another new character to appear.
