The Tatra T5C5 was an experimental tramcar built by ČKD Tatra in Prague in 1978, as two prototypes which were tested in Prague and Budapest. They differed in many ways to earlier Tatra products, most notably that the vehicle was controlled by a foot pedal rather than a hand lever. Although the T5C5 was never placed on general production, the two prototypes still remain in active service in Budapest, although they were extensively modernised in 2002 and now have the more conventional hand lever control mechanism. The modernisation of the vehicles also included a complete overhaul of the interior [1].
