Zed Books is an independent non-fiction book publishing company based in London.

Founded in 1977 under the name Zed Press, Zed publishes cutting edge academic books, covering a range of subject areas such as politics, economics, gender studies, development studies, and the environment.

Zed today

Zed Books is managed as a co-operative by its worker-directors, without any shareholders. It publishes around 50 books per year, providing many to the academic market, as well as university courses.

For over 30 years Zed has offered a range of titles focusing on alternative politics with the aim, it claims, of ‘giving voice to people, places, issues and ideas at the margins'.[1]
