Venue
The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) have started construction of the new world class international stadium at Edakochi, an area which lies in west Kochi. The capacity of stadium is said to be 50,000. Kochi currently have Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium which have hosted several ODI's. The Jawaharlal Nehru stadium at Kochi is not under KCA. Hence KCA plans to take the stadium on lease and modify the entire ground to equip IPL matches. If this is done Kochi can host its home matches at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, until the new stadium exclusively by KCA is ready by 2012.[1]
Trivia
- Upon entry of Kochi into IPL, all the states in South India has their own IPL team.
- It is said[who?] that Kerala government is planning to build a stadium in Thiruvananthapuram too[citation needed]. Hence Kochi IPL matches can also be held at the Kerala capital.
