Defence Housing Australia is an Australian government statutory authority that provides housing for members of the Australian Defence Force. The organisation was established in 1988. In addition to building houses, it also sells them to investors and then leases them back for its own use. This commenced in 1996. Developments have happened in Harrison,[1] and Muirhead.[2]
The organisation was established in 1988 as a result of an ACT of parliament, Defence Housing Australia Act 1987. 17,000 houses are managed.[3]
The organisation also used to look after relocations to a new house, but this has been outsourced to Toll Holdings on 1 July 2010.[4]
