SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. Welcome!
Hello, RPlunk2853, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}}
after the question on your talk page. Again, welcome! ~MDD4696 04:05, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
HMHS Britannic reversion
Just wanted to drop you a quick note as to why I reverted your edit to the Britannic article. Per the Manual of Style, only the first letter in a heading gets capitalized. Happy editing! AKRadeckiSpeaketh 21:50, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. I also should have given you the reference: Wikipedia:Manual of Style, section 2 covers heading styles. Also, I noticed how you were signing your comments...it's a lot easier to just type 4 tildas (like thiss - ~~~~), then the software auto inserts your sig. No problem with our being new...there's certainly a lot to learn. If you ever have any questions, drop me a line. AKRadeckiSpeaketh 22:00, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- I think I got them all already, but you might want to double check. AKRadeckiSpeaketh 22:09, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- I noticed as well. You are very welcome. Don't hesitate to ask for any more help you may need. --John 22:17, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your note about Hairspray. I'll take a look later tonight and should you take care of the incorrect character names you have continually inserted, I shall refrain from posting a third and final vandal notice and assume "good faith". (You really might want to read the edit summaries-where I state quite clearly that your additions are incorrect, and give the appropriate reference.) JeanColumbia 23:04, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
More Hairspray
I go by the Wikipedia guideline of verifiablity:" 'Verifiable' in this context means that any reader should be able to check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source. Editors should provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is challenged or is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed." [1] So, to apply this guideline to the question of middle names, if you can verify that those are the middle names, I think they they can be used. But, be sure your sources are "reliable" and not "original research". [2]. So, if you say Tracy's called "Edna" in the movie, but the IMDB doesn't show that, and none of the written reviews show that, and you can't find any other relable source, better be prepared for a debate. (Likewise if Penny is called "Penny Lou Pingleton on stage--does that name appear in IBDB? Or in any of the written reviews or other material?) I'm not saying that what you hear isn't acceptable, but the Wikipedia guidelines state: "All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged should be attributed to a reliable, published source using an inline citation."
You might want to give this some very careful reading and thought. Thanks for asking! JeanColumbia 08:05, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Names in Hairspray
Good question! In my opinion, you only need to use an "official" (or "reliable") source for the names. So, if it's in the booklet that comes with the CD, or if it's listed in the Internet Broadway Database, or, perhaps, in a printed script/song book, that is acceptable. Don't worry about what the traditional spelling of the name is, and don't worry about the German language. The authors of the musical can use whatever form of the name they want, and that is what the Wiki article should use. If someone is changing your correct edits, I suggest changing it back one more time, but then, enter into a discussion on the talk page of the article (just like we're doing here now). Give your reasons and your sources (very important). Also, leave a note on the person's talk page. You don't want to get into an edit war, talking it through and reaching consensus is, I think, the best way to resolve these things. Thanks for asking. JeanColumbia 18:32, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Hairspray 1988 movie
This is a really good point. For each production, we should use whatever the writers named the character. So, in 1988, she's named "Prudence Pingleton", but for the 2002 stage musical and 2007 movie she is named "Prudy Pingleton". You are right, the name from 1988 does not carry over. In a recent edit to the page The Wizard of Oz (1939 film), you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.
For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.
In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, just ask anyone on Wikipedia and they will help you. Thank you. Wizard of Oz is an American film, American spellings are the most appropriate. Her character in Hairspray has a nickname: Li'l Inez, not Little Inez. You didn't correct grammar; you made a character's name incorrect. Would you change the name of the comic strip Li'l Abner to Little Abner? Ward3001 (talk) 21:27, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Informal vs. formal usage
Kindly refrain from changing the examples in articles about grammar from informal to formal usage. There is absolutely no reason for it. In addition, please explain the reasons for your changes when you make them. Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 04:18, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

English has contractions.
English has contractions. While articles shouldn't generally use contractions, it's 100% fine for them to mention contractions. Hence, English example sentences can (and frequently should) contain contractions. —RuakhTALK 02:29, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Powerpuff Girls Edit
Please be more careful when doing grammar fixes. This is your edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cooties&diff=185317104&oldid=184512612 "Him" is a character name, notice how it is capitilized in middle of the word. Also, you change doesn't make sense despite the honest mistake, since no male character was previously mentioned to now be denoted by "he". In the future, please pay more attention to details. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.139.50.93 (talk) 10:17, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Grammar corrections
Hi
Please don't be over-agressive in fixing grammatical 'errors'. Several of the things you corrected were actually made worse. There is nothing wrong with contractions, even in policies. Nobody says "Be Lost" either. DJ Clayworth (talk) 19:42, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Likewise "let the reader know about what will be talked" is obstruse. As Churchill is claimed to have said "this is the sort of thing up with which we will not put". DJ Clayworth (talk) 19:45, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- I must agree with the above comments. Some of the changes you've made to WP:Glossary are unhelpful, and a reasonable level of informality seems perfectly appropriate in articles which are aimed at editors, who can be expected to have enough knowledge of English to feel confident to edit English WikiPedia articles. Using "don't" is much more friendly than "do not". I've made some changes, and added a comment on the talk page. But am now having a wikibreak for a few days. PamD (talk) 08:31, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Pilcrows
I reverted your recent edit to Old English#Charter of Cnut where you removed the pilcrows, but you left the statement in the introductory paragraph that explained the significance of the pilcrows. I am not determined to keep the pilcrows, but if you really want to remove them, I think that you should discuss it on the talk page, and you should remove the introductory statement and give consideration to the function they play. —teb728 t c 00:54, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Good job
I wasn't wildly enthusiastic about some of your earlier edits to guidelines, but this and this were right on the money, and we need someone willing to make these kinds of edits. Well done. (Watchlisting) - Dan Dank55 (send/receive) 15:59, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

"Grilled Cheesus"
Hi there! Thank you for your helpful contributions to List of songs in Glee (season 2)! I have heard the song previews, but we cannot use YouTube, really, as a source, mostly for copyright concerns (more info here: WP:YOUTUBE). Also, while it is possible "Papa, Can You Hear Me?" will be released as a single, it is not available on the Amazon.com store, unlike the others, where they usually are for pre-order. Hope you understand! :) Yvesnimmo (talk) 23:55, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
