Kemnay Academy is an secondary school in Kemnay, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is one of seventeen secondary schools run by Aberdeenshire Council and has roughly 680 pupils. The school is located by the bank of the River Don, Aberdeenshire.
History
Built in 1980, Kemnay Academy was initially created in response to a growing need for a secondary school to accommodate the growing number of pupils in Kintore and Kemnay who previously went to Inverurie Academy. After it's contruction, Kemnay Academy served the surrounding Kemnay and Kintore communities and their three feeder primary schools (Kintore Primary, Kemnay Primary, Aleshousewells Primary). At the turn of the century Kemnay Academy then began accepting pupils from the neighbouring Blackburns' Kinellar Primary.
Year on year, Kemnay Academy now sees a steep rise in its role and is earmarked for a new school in the near future following several extensions and the installation of temporary accommodation.
