South Korean girl group Girls' Generation have released six studio albums (four of which were re-released under different titles), two live albums, three extended plays, one remix album and twenty-four singles. Each of the band's studio albums has sold over 100,000 copies for each of their six albums, a first for a female group in the South Korean music industry in over six years.[1] Since launching in 2007, the group has sold more than 5 million physical albums and more than 40 million singles.[2] Members Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun have also released an EP under group name Girls' Generation-TTS.[3]

Girls' Generation's chart debut came in August 2007 with the single "Into the New World", which reached number four. They soon released their debut studio album, Girls' Generation (2007), which was later re-released as Baby Baby (2008). The album spawned three more singles: "Girls' Generation", "Kissing You" and "Baby Baby"; all of which reached the top ten on the Gaon Single Chart. Girls' Generation's first EP, Gee (2009), contained their first number one single, "Gee". The song occupied the number-one position on the Gaon Single chart for a record-breaking eight consecutive weeks. The release was soon followed by their second EP, Tell Me Your Wish (Genie) (2009), with another same-titled number one single. Their second studio album, Oh! (2010) was later re-released as Run Devil Run (2010). Six months later they released a third EP, Hoot (2010). "Oh!", "Run Devil Run" and "Hoot" all achieved number one status on the Gaon Single Chart.[4]

A Japanese version of "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)", released as "Genie", was Girls' Generation's first Japanese-language release, which peaked at number four on the Oricon Chart. They then released their third studio and second self-titled album and first to be fully in Japanese, Girls' Generation (2011), the highest-selling album in history by a Korean artist in Japan.[5] Their first original Japanese song, "Mr. Taxi", which was released as a double A-side single with a Japanese version of "Run Devil Run", also climbed to the number one spot on the Billboard Japan Hot 100. A Japanese version of "Gee" was also released, reaching number one on the Oricon Daily Chart,[6] making Girls' Generation the first non-Japanese Asian girl group to do so. Girls' Generation's third Korean and fourth studio album, The Boys (2011), produced a Korean version of "Mr. Taxi" and another number one single, "The Boys". An English version of the latter was also released worldwide, with the promise of a full-length English album to be released sometime in 2013.[7] Repackaged versions of the third and fourth studio albums were released as The Boys (2011) and Mr. Taxi (2011), respectively.

Girls & Peace (2012), the girl group's second Japanese album and fifth overall, was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). The album brought forward a Japanese version of "Oh!", as well as "Paparazzi" and "Flower Power"; all of which reached the top ten on the Billboard Japan Hot 100. Girls' Generation's sixth studio album, I Got a Boy (2013), was preceded by a remake of Duffy's "Mercy", titled "Dancing Queen", which debuted at number two on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100.[8][A] The lead single, "I Got a Boy" debuted at number one on Billboard K-Pop Hot 100,[8] with over 6 million digital sales according to the Gaon Chart.[9] Their seventh Japanese single was released in June 2013,[10] with an eighth, "Galaxy Supernova", to be released on September 18, 2013.[11]
