Happy New Year!

Dear friend, I hope you had a wonderful New Year's Eve, and that 2008 is your best year yet! ~ Riana 02:08, 2 January 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Hi again!

Hey just wanted to let you know I did some work on dc Talk. I finally broke down and did some editing myself. I used Led Zeppelin as a basis for the band history. I think having a timeline showing all the album titles helps organize the page better.

I put up my reasons for the changes on the discussion page. I hope you like it and I hope I didn't upset anyone with the changes I made.

Let me know what you think.

Also sorry for the long time in between responses, I got busy at home and with the Christmas things were hectic.

You can check out my site here if you want to - Music World Guide Still some work to do with solidifying page layouts so I'm not totally there yet, but I'm working on it little by little.OfficialDoughboy (talk) 17:06, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Worship Project

Ajcfreak, I noticed that you were involved in the Contemporary Christian worship article, and I thought you might be interested in helping improve it. I have started to work on improving it over here: User:Merond e/Worship Project. --Merond e 07:04, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some notes

I'm going to start work on adding the DC Talk Free at Last Move info to the DC Talk page. I was wondering if you could help with references and info. I'm going to add it this week after doing some research. Also wanted to let you know I started cleaning up The Kry if you have more info or could suggest ways to improve it let me know.

Sorry I haven't done much lately, I'm back in college full time and that takes up a lot of time. Hope to hear from you soon!OfficialDoughboy (talk) 13:48, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you take a look at MyAnimeList and give me some tips?

Bangalore

Hi, thanks for your note. With regards to the population, I don't argue that GoI data is probably a more RS than WG; however, GoI data is as of 2001, and the use of WG data for projected population of all Indian cities and towns has been standard operating procedure in WP for many years. At the end of the day, neither WG nor GoI physically count the entire population of each city; both use projection models to estimate the population. Wikipedia extensively links to List of most populous cities in India and List of most populous metropolitan areas in India, both of which source WG.

Second, with regards to the 2001 census data specifically, Bangalore was listed as the 4th (not 6th) largest city in the country. This position (projected) has now been revised to 3rd, in WG. Where the confusion of 6th-largest-city comes from is (I think) with regards to the population of the urban agglomeration. At the time of the 2001 census, Bangalore was the 6th largest UA, and is now the 5th largest. This has also been indicated in the article. See GeoHive for 2001 census UA and city data. This info was previously on censusindia.net (a GoI website). The website has since been discarded and its been significantly difficult to get the datasheet that pertains to this directly from the new website, www.censusindia.gov.in. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks AreJay (talk) 16:29, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. If you do have any other questions, do let me know I'd be glad to help. Thanks AreJay (talk) 17:52, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, I don't think we're relying on info that existed at a certain point in time. GoI "sells" data products (basically data sliced to suit a certain purpose) through the census website, which includes the list of most populous cities as of 2001. This could be "bought" by anyone interested in viewing the info, however, as I understand it, the data products are shipped on CDs and are not available online. We link to websites like GeoHive and WG because they downloadeded the census data from GoI at a time when they were freely available for online viewing. Therefore, just because the data is presented on GeoHive or WG, doesn't make it "their" data; it is still GoI's source data. The projection models used by WG though are proprietary products of WG though.
In an ideal world, it would be great to have government certified numbers for annual population growth, etc, but GoI only conducts census every 10 years and the rate of growth of population in urban India unfortunately ensures that any census data released by GoI gets very quickly outdated. One has to therefore rely on third party projection models, which I'm not altogether uncomfortable with, seeing as how the alternative to that would be to present outdated information from the 01 census. Thanks AreJay (talk) 18:29, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks (Ref: Talk:Bangalore)

Ajcfreak,
A quick word of thanks for your comments on the talk page and for opening a new line of discussion at the NC (GN) talk page. Will respond there as soon as I can escape for a while from the Real World™ - Max - You were saying? 03:41, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Bangalore

Acctually, a rethink on my part. There are conflicting policies on how the naming should be handled, I felt it deserved a bit more of an indepth look at rather than my slightly glib answer. Narson (talk) 20:44, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rajinikanth's name

You are saying Rajinikanth was born and brought up in Karnataka, so inclusion of his name is valid on the actor's wiki page. Can you allow us to write Dr.Rajkumar's name in Tamil in his wiki page, since he was born and brought up in Gajanur, Erode district, Tamil Nadu. If you say no, can you explanin why should we allow kannada script be included for Rajinikanth?

Firstly, I'd like to know who I'm discussing this with. So please login, or if you don't have a user account yet, then create one - it's best for everybody. Secondly, I've never even visited Dr. Rajkumar's article on Wikipedia and I do not know anything about him, other than the fact that he was (and still is) one of the most revered actors in the Kannada film industry. If what you say is true, then sure - go ahead and include his name in Tamil. I wouldn't have any problems. But I really can't involve myself with that article, at the moment. Rajinikanth is on my watchlist and I try to keep improving the article and related items, as and when possible. aJCfreak yAk 11:14, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

JC just calm down. The same user who had called others (including me) who said that Kannada should be there as fanatics had sent me an appreciation email when my stance was close to his on another article. I don't believe in judging anyone, so I shall leave my comments on that blunt and no further. There can be no two views that Rajinikanth is an actor of various film industries. He can't be claimed ownership of single one and HENCE all such languages can be here, when and where editors of such languages add them. I am pretty sure that other language scripts should stay there. I am also sure that there are many sensible editors in wikipedia who are always open to mediate such disputes. Trust me, this issue is not new at all in that article [1], but what we can do is to sort it out once and for all. BTW, happened to browse through some of your contributions and I should say they are great. Ciao Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 17:01, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, let me not be guilty of instigating you. Nevertheless, I would like myself to stand for the truth, and take a stance based on that. I'm a Tamil myself and just been having a hell of nightmare in the Hogenakkal falls article. It has started to move along now, thanks to some good hearted admins. Just a couple of weeks ago, I was in the same state of mind as you. Do not despair when some people try to put your moral down. That is what they want. Having said that, I guess you can probably do better things on Wikipedia than stalling your progress on a silly issue. Its better for you to decide what you want to do. I do respect your opinion that you would want to do more constructive edits elsewhere on wiki rather than finding yourself abused and sweared at. BTW have you comeacross Indian Christianity project. Seeing your user page thought you might be interested. Ciao Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 19:36, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

wikiality and ajcfreak! I never in my mind thought that you two would take my word (kannada fanatic) against you guys. I don't know much about ajcfreak, but through hogenakal falls article I know about wikiality, that he is a Tamil guy. I did send an appreciation mail because, I have made contributions to that article, long before it got into trouble after the announcement of the water project. so when Hogenakal article was seriously vandalised and wikiality came as a saviour I was really thankful to him for bringing the truth back. I don't know who the person with the ip address 59.92.193.146 in Rajini article. I mentioned the word kannada fanatic against him and also to be honest, I have seen lot of these guys in orkut forums and other media as well with hatred towards Tamil. So I just got pissed off after repeated edits. I am Tamil as well but I am not a Tamil freak or a racist. Just love my language and feel that it should be given the right place it deserves in things related to it. Never in my mind, I thought you guys as fanatics, never. I don't understand what made you guys to take that word against you. May be some misunderstandings, as it always happen. Sorry if you guys are hurt. Carry on the good work you are doing. I won't even give a damn to this Rajinikanth article anymore and also seriously thinking of leaving this stupid wikipedia, as my career is more important than wasting time in this. Peace. Hello only

Hello,

I am David from Fort Worth, Texas and I just kind of stumbled across your user talk page kind of accidently. Upon seeing the fact that you were a fellow Christian I thought it would really be very interesting to talk to a fellow of the body of Christ from across the other side of the world and share some faith, hope, information and experiences; if you are so inclined. If interested, please let me know and I will communicate my e-mail address and other information. \\ not sure what all the Wikipedia jargon is or means but I will try to behave by the guidelines and // Thank you for your consideration,

Thanks,

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Spice Telecom logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Spice Telecom logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 13:00, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bangalore or Bengaluru

Hi JC! I have been following the discussion on the name change since Bangalore is on my watch list (as most other Indian cities). I am not commenting or backing any of the two firstly because wiki policies regarding article names are not something I know a lot about, and moreover I haven't contributed much to that page myself. Anyways, I thought I can let you know that you can search pages on Google by dates (as in past 24 hours, past week, past month and past year) on Advanced Search. The Ghits propotion on Bangalore VS Bengaluru are not much different to the overall, but you might want to keep an eye on it when it changes. Sorry if you already are aware of the Advanced Search options. :D Cheers Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 21:25, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Noel Richards Calling All Nations.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Noel Richards Calling All Nations.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 02:31, 18 June 2010 (UTC) [reply]

WikiProject India Newsletter Volume V, Issue no. 1 - (June 2010)

Project News

WP:IND Newsletter is back! It's been nearly a year since the last edition, but we hope to bring out issues on a more regular basis now. The India Wikiproject was set up to increasing coverage of India-related topics on Wikipedia, and over the past few months the focus has been on improving article quality. A number of the project's featured articles underwent featured article reviews over the past year. Of these, Darjeeling and Flag of India survived the review process, while the rest were demoted. During the same period, Gangtok, Harbhajan Singh, Darjeeling and Mysore were featured on the main page respectively on August 20, September 17, November 6 and December 29, 2009. Meanwhile, articles on topics as diverse as Political history of Mysore and Coorg (1565–1760), Marwari horse and Iravan were promoted as featured articles, and respectively appeared on the main page on March 25, May 17 and May 28, 2010. Consequently, the number of FA-class articles under the project's scope dropped from 67 in August 2009 to 63 in June 2010. The number of good articles, however, saw a more than 40% increase, from 91 to 130 during the same period, while the number of featured lists saw a 33% increase from 12 to 16.

Due to the recent policy changes regarding unreferenced Biographies of Living People (BLPs), an effort was started in January 2010 to source all unreferenced BLPs coming under Wikiproject India. 1200 such articles were identified initially and more were added to the list later. Due to the sourcing effort, the number of Indian unreferenced BLPs is down to 565 currently. During February-April 2010, There was a large scale disruption of Kerala related articles by a Thrissur based IP vandal. Editing from a dynamic IP BSNL connection, the vandal changed dates of birth, death and ages of a number of Malayalam and Tamil film actors. Later he added a few international biographies to his list. He also marked some living people like Arvind Swamy as dead. A month long range block was imposed on his IP range two times and each time he came back to vandalise dates once the block expired. Currently the range has been blocked for three months till September 11, 2010.

What's New?
Current proposals and discussions
  • A discussion is underway here to reach a consensus regarding the use of Indian number names (lakh, crore etc.) in Wikipedia articles. Please participate and add your comments.
  • A discussion is in progress here in order to determine whether non-Western (including Indian) forms of classical music should be referred to by the nomenclature of art music instead of classical music. Please participate and add your comments.
  • Watchlist the Articles for Deletions page for India related discussions. Opinions from more Indian Wikipedians are required in many of the discussions.

If you've just joined, add your name to the Members section of WikiProject India. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!

Lastly, this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue (Issue 2 – (July 2010)). Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!

Looking forward toward more contributions from you!

A tag has been placed on Sathyam Cinemas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Thanks for uploading File:Petra - King of Kings.ogg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

WikiProject India Newsletter Volume V, Issue no. 2 - November 2010

English WikiProject News

After a missed issue, the WP:IND newsletter is back on track to being a regular bimonthly feature. The Indian WikiProject has seen plenty of online and off-line action, both in English as well as other Indian languages, and we now have a bigger, better format that intends to feature content and news from the English as well as other Indian language Wikipedias.

Reaching out to Indians has been the theme of the Indian Wikiproject over the past couple of months, aiming to involve a greater number of Indians in editing both the English and Indian language Wikipedias. To this end, efforts to set up the Indian chapter of Wikimedia have moved into their final stages, and registration of the society is currently pending. An effort is underway to push for "WikiMarathons" at meetups, where attendees will be encouraged to edit the English and/or Indian language Wikipedias. This is intended to popularise Wikipedia editing among the general public. In addition, a bot to post DYK's from the Indian Wikiproject to Twitter was created and launched by User:Logicwiki.

What's New?

Regrettably, the number of Featured Articles has dropped from 63 in June to 58 at the end of October 2010. Several FAs came up for review and were delisted, while Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Fundamental Duties of India was saved. Meanwhile, Chalukya Dynasty appeared on the main page on July 9, 2010. Hearteningly, the number of Good Articles increased from 130 to 136 during the same period, while the number of Featured Lists remained constant at 16.

The source code for the Article Alert Bot is now available and the bot itself is expected to be up and running very shortly. This means that article alerts for the Indian Wikiproject will again be available, enabling editors to easily keep track of developments in respect of reviews, nominations, deletions etc.

The date change vandal mentioned briefly in the previous issue made a reappearance when the range block on his IP range expired in September. Consequently the block was extended till September 2011.

In October there was a heated discussion in the India project noticeboard regarding the copyright status of the Indian party symbols. The discussion was triggered by the deletion of Wiki San Roze's party symbol images by Hammersoft as copyright violations. No resolution was reached, partly because of our inability to explain to Hammersoft how election symbols in India differ from party logos. Comments are requested from anyone with a background in Indian copyright law to clarify this issue.

Replaceable fair use File:Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jappalang (talk) 14:30, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Noel Richards.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Noel Richards.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 03:42, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Hurricane (The Hudson Taylors album) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article about an album that does not assert any notability of album. Lacks reliable sources. Unable to find any. Notability is not transitive.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. i kan reed (talk) 14:56, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Stories Project

Hello,

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Wikipedia users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Wikipedia - for the 2011 fundraiser.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).

My primary goal is to conduct 15-20 interviews, and hopefully enough of my interviews will make compelling stories that will effectively solicit donations from the public. These stories may also be used for other communication purposes by the foundation.

I found your userpage on a list of prolific Wikipedians and thought I’d reach out to you. Prolific editing is always a good story to tell!

If you are interested in participating, please contact me via my email:

vgrigas@wikimedia.org

Thank you for your time!

Victor

About me: I have been a Wikipedia editor since 2005, and have a background in film, video and audio. My userpage can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Victorgrigas

Please remove the "christian music" banner from Miranda stone wikipedia talk page

Hi there Ajcfreak! Maybe you can help me. I was up on the Miranda Stone wikipedia and noticed that in the talk pages there, it shows a wikiprojects "christian music" logo, and it says that the page is "within the scope of "wikiprojects christian music." This is is living person biography, and so it means that things need to be really researched. The music isn't "Christian music." I thought i should ask you first, since it looks like you are pretty involved with the "christian music" project if you can remove the banner. I think someone probably should have gotten several clear statements of this before adding it. It would be great if you could help out on this! Thank you! WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest

Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.

As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.

If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.

You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.
