Swift Wind is a fictional character in the animated television series She-Ra: Princess of Power.[2] He is the winged unicorn of She-Ra. He is the transformed form of Adora's horse, Spirit, who was given to her when she was a member of the Horde. When Adora transforms into She-Ra and defects from the Horde, she jumps down on Spirit's back, and tells the horse to run to The Whispering Woods. As she does, the horse is suddenly surrounded by an energy field of the same enchantment that transformed Adora into She-Ra and is magically transformed into a majestic winged unicorn.[3] Every time after this, however, Spirit can only be transformed into Swift Wind after Adora transforms into She-Ra first; an energy beam from the stone in the center of Adora's sword is shot at Spirit.
Spirit also possesses the power of speech and human-level intelligence. Although just an ordinary horse, Spirit is shown to be no soft touch, and is able to overturn a Horde Trooper's vehicle.
Family
Toward the end of the series, it is revealed that Swift Wind is to become a father. His mate, Star Wind is in foal to him, but she is captured by Hordak and taken to Beast Island. If she is not taken back to Unicorn Island before the foal is born it will not be born a unicorn. When the Horde are beaten the foal is born. But the foal is born away from Unicorn Island so is born as a normal horse. She-Ra asks Swift Wind if he is upset that his foal is not a winged unicorn. He says that he is happy the foal is healthy. She-Ra remembers that when Spirit was a normal horse she managed to transform him into a winged unicorn, so she uses the power in the Sword of Protection to transform the foal too.[4]
Powers and abilities
Swift Wind, like Spirit has the ability to talk. Swift Wind possesses powers which Spirit does not have. He is able to communicate telepathically with She-Ra, other unicorns and other flying horses. He also possess great strength when in this form. Most notable is the time when he is able to move one of Etheria's moons to stop one of Catra's attacks. He also displays great speed, ability to fly faster than a falling spaceship, and on one occasion is able to fly around Etheria against the planet's rotation. By doing this, he is able to transport himself and She-Ra into the past.
Spirit only possesses one power when in his normal equine form, and that is the power of speech. It is only when he is transformed into Swift Wind that he gains his additional powers. In both forms he possesses human-level intelligence and analytical capabilities.
