The Wisconsin Badgers are a college football program that competes in NCAA Division I-A and the Big Ten Conference. The team represents only the University of Wisconsin-Madison and not other schools in the University of Wisconsin System. They play there home games at Camp Randall Stadium. As of 2006, the university had an all-time win/loss/tie record of 575-451-53[1].

Team name origin

Contrary to popular belief, the true origin of the team's nickname has nothing to do with the state animal. Yet, the team's nickname 'Badgers', was borrowed from the state of Wisconsin. The territory was dubbed the 'Badger State', not because of animals in the region, but rather an association with lead miners in the 1820s. Prospectors came to the state looking for minerals. Without shelter in the winter, the miners had to 'live like badgers' in tunnels burrowed into hillsides.[1]
