Abhinandan Varthaman, is an Indian pilot and wing commander in the Indian Air Force and a MiG-21 Bison pilot.[1][2]
In February 2019, his plane was shot down when he entered Pakistani territory after crossing line of control. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed that an Indian pilot is missing in action after a MiG-21 Bison fighter plane was lost while engaging with Pakistani jets after they violated Indian airspace during the 2019 India–Pakistan standoff.[3]
He has been reported to be released by Pakistan on March 1, 2019.[4][5]
