It seems to me that the lead spends too much time explaining the rules of basketball - this can be covered in depth in the article body. There isn't not enough coverage of about other things, such as history and cultural impact. I would adjust these things myself but I don't know anything about basketball. Edit request: violations
In the first sentence on the third paragraph from the top, the article says: "Violations are called 'fouls'". This is incoherent since the violations hyperlink sends us to a lower part in the article where there is a distinction made between violations and fouls. Please correct this: the sentence "violations are called 'fouls'" is erroneous.
U.S. Centric
Naturally, this article will have a great deal to do with the U.S. as the birthplace and continuing professional heartland of basketball. However, the entire article is written from a perspective dealing almost wholly with basketball in relation to the USA, from the assumed perspective of a U.S. reader. A particular clear example is the various headings for different levels of basketball, all focusing entirely on the sport in the U.S. The international basketball section, which should rightly solely focus on the sport played at the international level, mostly does so, but then wholly inappropriately has a few short paragraphs about basketball played outside the U.S. generally.
In fact, the whole headline system of this article is largely inappropriate outside of a U.S. context, as categorisation of basketball playing does not universally reflect the U.S. model. A lot of it is good, but perhaps a new article should reflect the development of basketball in the U.S., whereas this article should be shorter, focused, and universally relevant.

Correction needed: High school timing rules
High school games are split into four quarterts. Each quarter is 10 to 12 miniutes long. This is not true. Minnesota has used 18-minute halves for many years. Wisconsin just completed their first full year of 18-minute halves. And a quick internet search indicates that many other states are considering or experimenting with halves.
New main image
I think the page needs a new front/main image in the infobox, rather than having the picture of the creator of basketball. I think the picture should represent the sport itself, similar to how the baseball page's main image is a picture of a baseball field. Something more modern. 108.30.110.252 (talk) 20:15, 7 June 2018.

Basketball is not a "no contact" sport. It's a "limited-contact" sport. As mentioned in the Wikipedia page detailing the different levels/tiers of contact sports. Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contact_sport 83.187.165.93 (talk) 21:18, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Please add a hyphen (-) between "Limited contact" (Limited-contact). 83.187.165.93 (talk) 17:04, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Missed shots
Even though Wikipedia has articles on the Fadeaway and Hook shots in basketball, this article doesn't even mention them.Kdammers (talk) 14:31, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
Changing "limited-contact" to just "limited"
Please change "limited-contact" to just "limited" as contact is already defined in the table. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.103.158.11 (talk) 12:29, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
Suggestion for lead
It seems to me that the lead spends too much time explaining the rules of basketball - this can be covered in depth in the article body. There isn't not enough coverage of about other things, such as history and cultural impact. I would adjust these things myself but I don't know anything about basketball. Five main rules of Basketball
1) The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands. 2) The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands. 3) A player cannot run with the ball. The player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance to be made for a man who catches the ball when running at a good speed if he tries to stop. 4) The ball must be held in or between the hands; the arms or body must not be used for holding it. 5) No shouldering, holding, striking, pushing, or tripping in any way of an opponent. The first infringement of this rule by any person shall count as a foul; the second shall disqualify him until the next basket is made or, if there was evident intent to injure the person, for the whole of the game. No substitution shall be allowed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Avinash425 (talk • contribs) 14:27, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
