The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the template(s) or module(s) below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the template's talk page or in a deletion review).

The result of the discussion was merge to Template:Infobox sports season. plicit 23:42, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Propose merging Template:Infobox CHL season with Template:Infobox sports season.
{{Infobox CHL season}} has nothing unique about it that separates it from {{Infobox sports season}}. It simply calls {{Infobox sports season}} and reiterates the arguments. –Aidan721 (talk) 23:31, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No transclusions. Created in 2008, and does not appear to have been adopted. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:05, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It has been used, then substituted (with #subst). And it is still useful for that usage. It helps computing palettes, as documented (with the safesubst parameter). verdy_p (talk) 15:17, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also NEVER place a Tfd banner at top, inside the transcluded content of the template, ONLY in its "noinclude" section. Thanks! verdy_p (talk) 15:19, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The template has no transclusions. If the template is intended to be used only as a substitution template, please add {{subst only}} to the top of the documentation, and I'll be happy to withdraw the nomination. The same goes for the other Darken template. As for the TFD banner, you'll have to take that up with the instructions on this page and the developers of Twinkle, who follow these instructions. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:39, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The "Tfd" banner MUST NEVER be inserted in a template outside a noinclude section, and notably NEVER when the template does not generate a text meant to be visible.
As documented, this template is used to generate style fragments in CSS or in attributes (part of RGB colors): posting HTML elements there generate invalid CSS or invalid HTML attribute.
Remember that this is a helper template. It has been (and is still) used to build statistic tables or graphs with colors from computed values (from a percentage). "Darken1" itself is used inside "Darken", and Darken works exactly like "Lighten", they are correlated and documented the same way.
Using "safesubst" (added in these templates since 2010, the templates were created and first documented in 2007) is optional: safesubst will not be used for contents like statistics that will vary over time but for which we need to have coherent and synchronized coloring. But for static tables that are normally immutable, it can be safe-substituted. So ading "Substonly" to the doc is inaccurate because it is clearly optional !
And the documentation already says since 2010 at the top that these templates "CAN BE substituted" (not "MUST BE").
Note also that some pages that were using it on Commons are now hosted elsewhere (e.g. in Meta, or in other projects). But the tempaltes remain in Commons, because it is still useful for new contents and there's no need to rewrite it and redocument it: deletion would be just a waste of time. verdy_p (talk) 23:15, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't make up rules on how the TfD banner should be used. Jonesey95 was correct in their usage and even pointed to you to where the instructions are found. If you have any complaints, go there. Gonnym (talk) 13:17, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, you've been pushing for TfD tags to be noincluded, against consensus, basically for as long as I've been active on Wikipedia. This is counterproductive. * Pppery * it has begun... 20:24, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Various pages are built using it (first without safesubst while editing, then with safesubst if values are stable and colors can be statically precomputed), notably statistics (to colorize table cells).
Also NEVER place a Tfd banner at top, inside the transcluded content of the template, ONLY in its "noinclude" section. Thanks! verdy_p (talk) 15:20, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: I'm finding it improbable that this template is still used. Templates that aren't auto-subst usually end up with transclusions, while this template does not have any (and neither do any of the other 3 templates in this set). While these might have been used at one point in time, it does not seem they are still used. Gonnym (talk) 13:21, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I also don't see any real-life use cases for this. Any color usage that is based on a real-life object (sports team, political party, etc) uses the official colors. When one of those colors needs adjusting they should be adjusted for accessibility and color contrast and not randomly made light or dark. If anyone wants to play with colors, there are many, better, sites online that do that. Gonnym (talk) 13:25, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Delete (and would support deletion of the entire set) per my comments. Not used, no indication that it has anywhere to be used, and if anyone wants to calculate values for something, Google is their friend. Gonnym (talk) 21:25, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No transclusions. Created in 2016. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:52, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure no one is subst'ing this template? —swpbT • go beyond • bad idea 19:03, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The template documentation does not indicate that the template is substable or should be substed. Substing the template results in something like {{#if: | {{#invoke:LatestAfD|latestafd|Horseplay (band)|{{{2}}}}} | {{#invoke:LatestAfD|latestafd|Horseplay (band)}} }}. I see no evidence that any such code exists in any namespace. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:21, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Point taken. I this this template might find use if more people knew it existed; please give me a little time to advertise it. —swpbT • go beyond • bad idea 19:59, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Only used in 3 transclusions, most of them for this template and it's documentation. We would loose nothing if this was deleted. This would be fine for a new template, but it's existed since 2016. Not old at all. Cranloa12n / talk / contribs / 13:52, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No transclusions. It appears that {{Earthquake magnitude}} may be sufficient to meet the need. – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:01, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The "energy class" (K) scale of EQ strength was developed by Soviet seismologists, and became the predominant scale used in the Soviet Union and allied states (like Cuba). It is based on the actual energy of an earthquake, instead of the magnitude of an instrumental effect such as Richter based his "magnitude" (M) scales on. To suggest that energy scale is not needed because M scales "may be sufficient to meet the need" is like saying that the Kelvin temperature scale is not needed because it is hardly used and the Fahrenheit scale "may be sufficient".
The lack of transclusions reflects en.wp's predominately Western orientation, and possibly non-awareness that this template exists. When some Anglophone editor eventually has a need to express "K" this template should be available as a standard, vetted usage. And without a template to track these kinds of things how do we know that occasions have not occurred where this template could have been used but the editor was not aware of the existence of this template?
A further reason for keeping this template is for the benefit of other wikis in countries where the energy class scale is used, so they don't have to re-invent this template.

Unused but also very unnecessary split of documentation page. Even if it were still used, I'd say subst to actual /doc and delete. Gonnym (talk) 06:54, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
