Plot
Injured from the blast inside the Russian embassy, Jack is ordered by Bill Buchanan to remain in CTU medical. Inside a waiting area, Jack speaks to Marilyn Bauer who tells him about Audrey Raines's accidental death while in China (presumed on a mission to locate Jack while in captivity). Furious, Jack confronts Chloe O'Brian and Bill separately, the two people Jack trusted the most, asking why he was never told about Audrey's mission to save Jack and her subsequent death. After he reads the file on Audrey, Jack demands to be reinstated to active duty, noting to Bill that once the current crisis is over, he will see revenge against the person(s) responsible for Audrey's death.
Fayed and Gredenko are able to launch a single drone while they move out of the area with the two remaining nuclear weapons to avoid detection. Fayed also blames Gredenko for trusting Markov. As the drone is launched, CTU tries to track its movement in order for the Air Force to shoot it down, but CTU's satellite feed is overridden by an unknown source. Chloe thinks that the source of the intercept was from within one of CTU's 500 workstations, it is eventually traced to Nadia Yassir. Bill orders Nadia detained where Mike Doyle interrogates her. Nadia repeatedly tells Mike that she is innocent and would never do anything like this. Chloe later confirms the drone's target as San Francisco and is controlled by someone within a scant 3 blocks of CTU's headquarters. With this new information, Mike leaves Nadia from the interrogation room and has his team go after the house where the drone is being controlled, Jack also joins the team as well.
Vice President Noah Daniels met with the Joint Chiefs to discuss the possibility of a nuclear strike against Assad's country. The Admiral of the Navy informs Daniels that such a warning strike would result in less than 2000 death since the detonation would be near the unpopulated northern border of Assad's country, however the nuclear fallout could result in double this number depending on ground conditions. Karen Hayes objects the strike and urges Daniels to reconsider, but Daniels tells the general to prepare the strike. When Karen confronts Thomas Lennox, he tells her that he will endorse any action initiated by Daniels. When she sees Palmer's doctor, Karen asks the doctor to wake injured President Palmer from an induced coma, presumably to override Daniels's decision. Nevertheless, the doctor says he doesn't recommend doing that since the procedure can be life threatening and such decision would require the consent of Palmer's family. Meanwhile, Jack and Mike ambush the safe house, killing the two guards and injuring the pilot who controls the drone. With CTU's assistance, Jack safely pilots the drone to make a crash landing in an industrial area. Upon a crash landing, the nuclear device is split into two, exposing the first responders on the scene to the bomb's radiation .
When Bill informs Daniels about the averted attack in San Francisco, also disclosing that the device did leak some radiation, Daniels orders a nuclear submarine to reposition to launch a retaliatory strike. Karen and Lennox contend to Daniels that CTU stopped the nuclear missile from striking San Francisco, but Daniels dismisses Karen's statement on technical grounds. The Defense Secretary informs Daniels that the nuclear submarine will be ready to launch an attack, within the next hour.
During this episode there is also discreet hints that Milo Pressman may be romantically interested Nadia Yassir dispite earlier references to Milo Pressman and Chloe O'Brian.
