Irene Sharp (1936 – 13 July 2023[2]) was an American cellist. She taught at the University of California, Berkeley and the Mannes College of Music.[3] Her former students include Matt Haimovitz; Hae-yi Ni, principal cello of the Philadelphia Orchestra; and Amos Yang, associate principal cello of the San Francisco Symphony. In 1992, Sharp received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the American String Teachers Association. She founded and was the artistic director of California Summer Music from 1996 until her death.[2]
