Ramsha Khan (Template:Lang-ur; born 23 June 1994) is a Pakistani actress who works primarily works in Urdu-language television.[2] Khan is a recipient of several accolades including an ARY People's Choice Award, along with a Lux Style Award nomination.[3][4]

Khan made her acting debut with the film Thora Jee Le (2017), and in the same year, she made her television debut with Woh Aik Pal. Khan received recognition for her portrayal in Mah-e-Tamaam (2018) and Khudparast (2018-19). For her portrayal of an independent girl with several marriages in Ghisi Piti Mohabbat (2021), she won the ARY People's Choice Award for Favorite Actress.[5][6] She received praise for portraying an army officer in Sinf-e-Aahan (2021–22) and a college girl in Hum Tum (2022). For the latter, she received a Lux Style Award for Best TV Actress nomination.[7]

Early life

Ramsha Khan was born on 23 June 1994 in Karachi, Sindh.[8][9] She started her career as a model, before she ventured into acting.[10][11]

Career

Debut and early career (2017-2020)

Khan made her acting debut with the drama film Thora Jee Le, in 2017 where she played an aspiring businesswoman. The film was a commercial failure.[12][13] The same year, she played Hina in Woh Aik Pal opposite Feroze Khan and Marium Noor in Tumhari Marium.[14] In 2017, Khan also appeared in two telefilms Teen Shauqeen and Mohabbat Hogaye Aakhir opposite Bilal Abbas Khan.[15]

Khan played Shifa Taqi Lodhi opposite Wahaj Ali in Mah-e-Tamaam in 2018.[16] From 2018 to 2019, she played Uswah opposite Shahzad Sheikh in Khudparast. Khan received praise for her portrayal in both these series.[17][18] She also appeared in two telefilms Jeena Hai Mushkil and Weham, the same year.[19]

In 2019, Khan played Marium Jamal, a woman facing marital abuse opposite Muneeb Butt in Kaisa Hai Naseeban.[20] Khan was praised for her portrayal and it was one of the highest rated serials in Pakistani television.[21][22] From 2019 to 2020, she played Anoushay in Shahrukh Ki Saliyan opposite Ahsan Khan.[23] In 2020, Khan played Hamna Azeem opposite Feroze Khan and Gohar Rasheed in Ishqiya, for which she received an ARY People's Choice Awards for Favorite Actress in a role of Wife nomination.[24][25]

Experimental roles and success (2021-present)

Khan's career marked a turning point in 2021, with her portrayal of an independent girl Samiya in Ghisi Piti Mohabbat, opposite Wahaj Ali, Shahood Alvi and Ali Abbas.[26][27] For this performance, she won the ARY People's Choice Award for Favorite Actress.[28] The same year, she played Bakht in drama Shehnai opposite Affan Waheed.[29] From 2021 to 2022, Khan played an army officer Pariwesh Jamal in the women centric Sinf-e-Aahan.[30] During filming, the lead cast also received military training.[31]

Khan played a college chemistry student Neha Qutub ud Din opposite Ahad Raza Mir in the Ramadan special Hum Tum, in 2022.[32] The series and her portrayal was praised across Pakistan and India. She received the Lux Style Award for Best TV Actress nomination for her performance.[33][34][35]

In 2023, Khan appeared in the anthology film, Teri Meri Kahaniyaan opposite Sheheryar Munawar. The film received positive reviews.[36][37] The same year, she portrayed Tabassum Mughal, opposite Talha Chahour in Jannat Se Aagay.[38][39]

Other work and media image

Khan has been described in the media, among Pakistan's most popular actresses.[40][41] Images Dawn named Khan in their "Standout Performances: Female" list of 2018 and 2020.[42][43] In 2022, Khan was placed in "Best Pakistani Actresses" list, for her performance in Hum Tum.[44][45] In the same year, Khan was placed in Hello Pakistan's HOT100 list, in the "Trailblazers" category.[46][47][48] The actress also serves as an brand ambassador for a number of brands such as Nestlé, TUC, 7Up and Hum Mart, among others.[49]

In addition to the dramas, Khan has appeared as a guest in various series and talk shows. In 2017, she appeared on Jago Pakistan Jago and Kitni Girhain Baaki Hain: Part 2, opposite Tipu Sharif. In 2018, she played Kiran Khan in an episode of Ustani Jee.[50] Khan appeared on Jeeto Pakistan League 2 in 2021.[51]

Following her strong woman portrayal in Khudparast, Ghisi Piti Mohabbat, Sinf-e-Aahan and Hum Tum, Maliha Rehman of Dawn noted, "Smart, ambitious, with a laid-back glamour to her, she defines today’s new-age star."[52]
