Title

[edit]

The transliteration used in the article is practically unknown in the sources (including the ones cited in the article). A typical work apparently uses "dgongs gcig" instead. Some other spellings that can be actually found: "Drigung Gongchig" Викидим (talk) 08:12, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree. Drikung is used twice as much as the transliteration in English than Drigung. Thus, our Drikung Kagyu article is in the right place, along with Drikungpa. Thus this article is also correctly titled. This should be discussed at Talk:Drikung Kagyu, not here, as the consensus should then be applied throughout Wikipedia's articles on Tibetan Buddhism. If the article on the school uses 'Drikung', so should all the other uses which are references to the school. For now, unless the main article on the Drikung Kagyu is changed, this title should not be. Skyerise (talk) 11:21, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Two words "Drikung Gongchig" never appear together in any reliable English source, so there is an element of WP:SURPRISE here. I was originally unable to find any sources for the term, for example, including the sources actually cited in the article. I do not particularly care, so I will just add the correct English spelling to the introduction, so that the next reader does not have to spend 10 minutes or so trying to figure it out again. Викидим (talk) 18:34, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's because the title is simply Gongchig. Drikung is a qualifier. Not sure the qualifier is needed or usual. Skyerise (talk) 19:49, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding your comment to the edit (the "other spelling" is the Wylie transliteration of Tibetan - not the English): the "dgongs gcig" spelling can easily be found in work written in English. It is "Drikung Gongchig" that is notably absent in such literature and thus most likely is not yet a part of the English language. Викидим (talk) 21:56, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is not English. It is the Wylie transliteration of the Tibetan. The article will be moved to Gongchig, which is the most usual spelling in English translations of the work. Drikung isn't part of the title. Skyerise (talk) 22:00, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You obviously are familiar with the subject, so I definitely have no objections. My problem was my inability to find the original title in sources, and I am usually good with the search. Викидим (talk) 23:01, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
