Robert A. Hawkins (b. May 18, 1987)-(d. December 5, 2007) was the perpetrator of the Westroads Mall shootings in 2007. The shooting left 8 people and himself dead.

Early Life

Hawkins was described as "troubled"[1] and suffered from depression. He formally attended Papillion-La Vista High School, later dropping out and receiving a GED. He had lived with two friends and their mother in a ranch-styled house in Bellevue.[2]

Shooting

By witnesses of the shooting, the gunman had been described as a tall male, possibly wearing camouflage or military-type clothing.[3] Also, a note that could be interpreted as a suicide note was turned over to the Sarpy County Sheriff's Department shortly after the shooting. The note, which is reported to read "I'm going out in style"[4], was written by a 20 year-old male named Robert A. Hawkins of Bellevue, Nebraska, who subsequently has been identified by the police as the gunman.[5]

Hawkins was arrested on November 24, 2007, for two misdemeanors, one of which was underage possession of alcohol. He was due in court for an arraignment on December 19, 2007.[5]

He had recently been fired from his job at McDonald's, and had recently broken up with a girlfriend.[5]

Police are in the process of securing a warrant to search the house (located in the Quail Creek Neighborhood) where he has been living with friends.[5] His guardian at the time of the incident told media sources that Hawkins was depressed over the loss of his job and his girlfriend breaking up with him.[5]
