I spent a fair amount of time on this template, and I'd prefer to use it for consistency between entries, and for ease of format change - imagine what it would be like if we had to switch to a new format halfway through doing all the birthdays! But since you seem to have taken the task of creating all the entries, I'll leave the choice of whether to use the template or not up to you.

However, I do feel that it is necessary to make the ages auto-update, so that we don't have to go through and update them all in a year. I'm going to change the entries to do so. Again, please ask if you have any questions as to how the templates work. Thanks, [][][][]c[][][] 20:10, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I made the changes. I really want to urge you to consider using my template. It looks very professional, especially with the parentheses. See Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/June_15 for an example. And again, with so many musician's birthdays to do, it would be a real pain to have to make a change to every one of them by hand.
The template is pretty easy to use. It calculates the age for you, and does most of the formatting - you just put in the raw data and the description. I think that once you get used to it, you will really appreciate it being there. I will do all the coding and technical stuff; you can just reap the benefits I stated above. This is a problem:

Portal:Music/Birthdays/Template

In some cultures, including "– present" is considered impolite — to say the least. The impression is that you are just waiting for the subject to fall into the casket, just so you can etch the date of death on their tombstone. Folajimi 00:41, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why is my name showing up in the template? Folajimi 00:42, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The reason was that it's set to use the name of the page it's at as the birthdate. So if it's at Portal:Music/Birthdays/June 23, it would use June 23 as the date. But now it's set to just display <date> outside the Portal namespace. [][][][]c[][][] 02:46, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll fix these two issues. I'm going to make a static copy, and then an updated copy, to show the difference:Test templates deleted. [][][][]c[][][] 02:44, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think everything is good to go. I'll finish up combining Portal:Music/Birthdays and Portal:Music/DateOfBirth.

Sorry if I've annoyed you; I've probably been over-eager to use my template. Hope you'll like it. [][][][]c[][][] 02:57, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's fixed. [][][][]c[][][] 03:03, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that's because it's not in the Portal namespace. If you look at any of the pages here, they work fine. It shouldn't be a problem for any Portal page. What it's doing right now is using the pagename (since this is "User talk:Folajimi", it takes the "Folajimi") as the date. This works for all the Portal:Music/Birthdays/??? pages.
If it's a problem I can make it say <date> instead. [][][][]c[][][] 03:13, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, anything else? [][][][]c[][][] 03:29, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That is all. Folajimi 03:31, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Music birthdays

Which path do you want to use - Portal:Music/Birthdays or Portal:Music/DateOfBirth? It would probably be less effort to use the former, but I can combine them to either. [][][][]c[][][] 22:10, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The template should allow the death year alone now. Note that I moved it to Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/Template. The category is fixed, but now you have to type the full date out, with both numbers - June 03, instead of June 3. [][][][]c[][][] 19:37, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My mistake. [][][][]c[][][] 03:19, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Strange; the last entry of Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/July 18 works for me: "Ryan Cabrera, American musician and TV personality, turns 24." Is it still broken for you? [][][][]c[][][] 23:11, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Template status.

Hello! Apparently, the discussion stopped after the requesting the consensus (which was quite successful, I would say). The poll never ended, though. Maybe it is time to revive the discussion, decide if we are to replace the current template with the new one or have both up at the same time, moving the articles from one infobox to another with a bot or something. -- ReyBrujo 18:31, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay, job is chaotic right now. The infobox should be backwards compatible with the old one. By adding the correct type, the infobox color and type should be correctly set. And if the type is a non standard one, the article is put inside the Category:Articles about albums with infoboxes using non-standard type parameter value category (which should be renamed according to consensus, too). Those were the main modifications to the infobox. -- ReyBrujo 18:07, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Let's see (if I understood you correctly). User:ReyBrujo/Sandbox is the template itself. Its usage is basically the same of the current infobox, with a modification: the Type parameter has been standarized. The different values the Type parameter can get are specified in User:ReyBrujo/Temp/Sandbox, especifically here. It wikifies automatically if it is a known type, or leaves it if it is not. In example, if you use Type = Live album, you will get something like this (note that in the Live album by Do As Infinity line, Live album is automatically wikified). If you use a non-standard type, it is accepted, but you should provide the wikification. In this example:
    Type = [[Extended play|EP]]/[[DVD]]
is used. Note that the type is not one of the accepted ones, so you need to supply the wikification. Whenever you include a type that is not standard, the article is put into a maintenance category.
There is also an optional Longtype parameter. This parameter allows you to include extra information between the type and the author, without breaking the Type. In example:
    Type = Soundtrack
    Artist = [[Madonna (entertainer)|Madonna]]
will result in Soundtrack by Madonna. If we wanted to say that the soundtrack was for a determined movie, we would have to add it in the type, which would break the Type parameter (as the value would be non standard):
    Type = [[Soundtrack]] to ''[[The Next Best Thing]]''
    Artist = [[Madonna (entertainer)|Madonna]]
will result in Soundtrack to The Next Best Thing by Madonna, but would be non standard type and categorized with the maintenance category.
To prevent this we use the Longtype parameter. In the example, we use the following text to get the correct description:
    Type = Soundtrack</nowiki>
    Longtype = to ''[[The Next Best Thing]]''</nowiki>
    Artist = [[Madonna (entertainer)|Madonna]]</nowiki>
This generates the same result than the previous example, but Soundtrack is automatically wikified because the type is known.
User:ReyBrujo/Temp/Sandbox2 is a helper function that returns the wikification used based on a type. This template is the one that converts Soundtrack into Soundtrack. User:ReyBrujo/Temp/Sandbox3 is the replacement for {{Extra album cover}} and User:ReyBrujo/Temp/Sandbox4 the replacement for {{Extra chronology}}. These two templates are necessary because they currently only accept the background color, not the type, while the modified versions would always use the Type.
Note that in all situations you can pass a Background color. If used, it will overwrite the color assigned to that type. This is in order to keep compatibility with existing infoboxes, and because non standard types may use different colors. Note that here you have an infobox about a Soundtrack with its default color, while here you have an infobox about a Soundtrack with yellow as background color.
I think this is all we did. If you want me to explain how exactly the extra templates work, do tell me and I will reply later (a bit time pressed right now). -- ReyBrujo 20:47, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Go to User:ReyBrujo/Temp/Sandbox. This is the auxiliar template that handles color. Edit it, and you will see something like:
    {{#switch:{{{1|}}}
      |EP=salmon
      |Studio album=orange
      |Live album=darkturquoise
      |Greatest hits=darkseagreen
      |Box set=darkseagreen
      |Compilation album=darkseagreen
      |Remix album=darkseagreen
      |Cover album=plum
      |Tribute album=plum
      |Soundtrack=gainsboro
      |Television theme=gainsboro
      |Film score=gainsboro
      |gainsboro
    }}
This is a switch. Every entry is of the type Type=color. Type must be one of the existing ones, while the color must be a name (I think it doesn't work with color values yet). The last one is the default color (that is why it is not a pair, but just a color). If you want to change the Tribute album color to yellow, just replace Tribute album=plum with Tribute album=yellow. Save the template, and refresh the auxiliar template and the infobox where you are trying. That should work. -- ReyBrujo 01:02, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good! Now you should just revive the discussion at the WikiProject Album, maybe test some more, move the templates from my userspace to the mainspace, and replace some of the album articles with the new template, to see how it is being handled. We can use some of the albums from Every Little Thing and Do As Infinity, those I had worked with, there are few keeping track of them, and it would be easy to explain that the template changes are tests in real-life articles. The hardest part will be replacing all the old infoboxes with the new one, we will have to have a discussion about how to handle that. -- ReyBrujo 02:08, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Tools for navigating birthday pages

It's possible, but the calendars will have to be put in manually (or by bot).

User:Audacity/Sandbox is an example of an October calendar for this year. It would be copied to Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/October 2006. Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/October would then link to this year's calendar (for now, Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/October 2006), and each of the October pages would link to Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/October. The only maintenence work would be creating a new calendar for each new month, which takes 2 minutes.

If you're willing to add or find someone to add {{Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/October}} (or whatever the month is) to the top of each DOB page, I'll go ahead and make the templates. [][][][]c[][][] 01:26, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All right, all done. I did Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/October 1 as an example.
AutoWikiBot, if you don't know of it already, will save you a lot of time. [][][][]c[][][] 23:16, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing major, but the presence of the calendar on the main portal page is clunky to my eyes. You might want to put noinclude tags around {{Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/month}}:
<noinclude>
{{Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/month}}
</noinclude>
[][][][]c[][][] 22:44, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I think I got it to work. To hide an entry on the main portal page, put |hidemain=true at the end of the template code. My sandbox has an example of the code. As you can see, it doesn't work in my sandbox. It only hides the entries on the main portal page.

If this is cumbersome, I could easily make another template that you would put around a group of entries to hide them all. [][][][]c[][][] 01:33, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The pagelink variable is for artists whose Wikipedia page is different from the name or nickname you are using. So the text "Champagne King" will link to Evelyn King (singer). It's useful for nicknames, or for artists like Evelyn King whose page is more than just their name.

All the variables are documented at Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/Template. [][][][]c[][][] 04:22, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The pagelink variable is nothing more than an option to pipe the link, which fixes the problem of the template assuming that a page exists for a musician, when it is actually about someone else with the same name. It is equivalent to using a piped link for the author's name.
I don't understand your question about Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/January 05. Are you suggesting a Wikipedia:Redirect? [][][][]c[][][] 01:03, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pr-stub, Pr-company stub

Hi - it has come to our notice that you have recently created a new stub type. As it clearly states at WP:STUB, at the top of most stub categories, on the template page for new Wikiprojects and in many other places on Wikipedia, new stub types should be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and whether better use could be made of a WikiProject-specific talk page template.

In the case of your new stub type, it may well not reach the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and certainly is not named according to stub naming guidelines - PR is a disambiguation page, and PR-stub could just as easily stand for any of dozens of different things. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any reason why this stub type should not be proposed for deletion at WP:SFD. And please, in future, propose new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 00:43, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hard to define album types.

Thanks for you'r help and cheers! Justin Foote 01:28, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have no clue why it was doing that, but I fixed it by moving her entry to the top.

What I did was hide from the main Portal page the entries for people who are dead. Thus, Portal:Music only shows living people's birthdays, but Portal:Music/DateOfBirth shows all entries. [][][][]c[][][] 00:40, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Some of the information you added to Nick LaRocca was inaccurate, in particular calling him a "singer" and some of the record labels listed. Where did that misinformation come from? Wondering, -- Infrogmation 00:50, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of 7Seas

An editor has nominated 7Seas, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/7Seas and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 01:00, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Infinite_Keys.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Infinite_Keys.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:13, 8 May 2008 (UTC). Proposed deletion of Chief Xcel

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Chief Xcel, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
