Wikibreak

Wikibreak indeed. Mine lasted a grand total of a day, and I went back to correcting recieve/receive typos. ;) User:Purplefeltangel/sig 21:58, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

No content

Here, check this out: the AfD page I processed. Also see this. You're right, I should have used a different reason in my delete. --HappyCamper 23:18, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gah! So confusing. I thought you were talking about something else entirely. You're right. Not to worry, I'll uncover some of the edits. Turns out something in the history was copyrighted. --HappyCamper 23:27, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Good, all fixed. You have a sharp eye for these things. Thanks :-) --HappyCamper 23:32, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ads

The Answers.com thing proposes adding a link to the tools page in the sidebar. This is an ad and I think it's unacceptable. ♥♥purplefeltangel 02:01, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

Look at my user page. And I'm with you on the ads thing myself and have signed the petition under my main account.Wikiphilosopher 14:14, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Why not

Sorry, hon, but if I told you how I'm finding these errors, you would start doing it too. Then I wouldn't know which ones were fixed or not and it would get all disorganized. This is a job for one person -- as they say, too many cooks spoil the broth. ♥♥purplefeltangel 19:10, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

you might check out Wikipedia:List of common misspellings to copyedit articles. Go for the more obscure ones, those are less likely to have been done. Also check out Wikipedia:Typo and Wikipedia:WikiProject Punctuation. Also very easy to do is Wikipedia:WikiProject Fix common mistakes (this one checks commonly duplicated words, like "the the"). there's no need to discourage someone from working to improve Wikipedia. You are right, There are plenty of things to do on Wikipedia, and I work on typos sometimes too. Also, correcting typos is an ongoing process, with new ones appearing all the time: so it is a messy job, no matter what, it needs to be constantly checked. Purplefeltangel, even if you've finished with "received," there will be 4 new "recieveds" next week. Maybe you two could discuss which words you're checking so you wouldn't step on each other's toes, I don't think that that would be too hard. I don't think it's very nice to "hog" a cleanup task.--Kewp (t) 19:32, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

log

Just ignore it, there's no reason to get upset, there are many other Wikipedia users who are happy to help. I mean, you don't want to get into a position where you look bad, just because someone else is being unhelpful. I think that you want to avoid posts like this, [1] because they don't improve the situation at all. I find the best policy when I'm dealing with someone who is being annoying is to just leave the situation, instead of getting in an unneeded argument. Just try to find a better place to ask your questions, I suggest Wikipedia:Help desk, you can ask as many questions as you want there, and people usually reply fairly quickly. Best, Kewp (t) 19:44, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to have to agree with Kwep; sometimes, it's just best to move on. I also strogly encourage you to avoid comments like the one Kwep linked above; it isn't likely to make the situation better, and will put the other person on the defensive. My advice for future situations is: If someone indicates they don't want to share something, accept that and move on; they aren't likely to change thier mind, and it will only accelerate into an unpleasant interaction (as it has in this case). Take Kwep's advice, ask questions at the help desk, and get involved with some of the other projects listed. -- Essjay · Talk 20:45, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Plenty to do

Not worth getting stressed over - anyway, the easiest way to find spelling errors in Wikipedia (that I know of) is to google search the misspelling in the wikipedia.org domain. But anyway, come help delink disambiguation pages instead!  BDAbramson talk 12:19, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering

Hi Prodego, I just ran into this: [2]. I was bit surprised by it, why did you delete the other warnings? And why the 'hate' remark? You might have had good reasons, but I'm just wondering what they were, it looked odd to an outsider/rc patroller like me JoanneB 19:08, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Responded, it was an admin using the admin revert that caused it to show up on my contributions.

IRC Bot

How do I use this?

Prodego talk 19:46, 28 October 2005 (UTC) [reply]

The bot has a rather simple color sceme.
Red is for blanking candidates
Blue is for giberish candidates
Pink is for whatched pages (for review)
Cyan is for copy vio candidates
Purple is for blocks/unblocks
Etc Etc...
While any alert is not automaticaly "bad" it likely is. ;)
Generaly the practice is review diffs (url generated by the bot) and revert if necesary.
Just tag along on the IRC channel for about 20 minutes and it will make perfect sense.
I hope this helps --Cool Cat Talk 22:10, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I should have said, "How I use this, do I install something, all I see is source code?".

Prodego talk 22:21, 28 October 2005 (UTC) [reply]

Oh no, just join the IRC channel. You dont need to install a thing (aside from your IRC client) --Cool Cat Talk 22:30, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
What is the channel?

Thanks

Thank you for all your help! The problem is now fixed. I really apreciated it when you helped me. Thanks again. --Sdlr 13:54, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock comments

I'm concerned about some commentary that was pointed out to me. It seems as if you have told other users that you could unblock them; I'm not sure if I've missed something, or if you're confused. Non-admins cannot unblock users, and I can't find any record of you being an admin. Was this just a mistake, or is there something I'm not seeing? -- Essjay · Talk 15:31, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

re: Hello again

On the typos, just stay away from recieve/receive, because Google results are cached, so I won't have any way of knowing which ones you've done. Try "perjorative," "seperate," or "aquire."

As for Purpleavenger, I have no idea who this person is and I don't think I want to. I will talk to an administrator about him/ her. ♥♥purplefeltangel 20:44, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Silverwing

Thanks! :D I looked at Kenneth Oppel's website but I didn't see any information about the bats' species. Thanks for looking that up! :D ♥♥purplefeltangel 21:55, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

re:purpleavenger

Yeah, I actually did get an IP check which is why I said "scratch that." I thought you might have been trying to make me look bad. I didn't want to doubt your maturity but I couldn't think of anyone who both liked me enough to threaten someone for me and was that impulsive and reactive. ♥♥purplefeltangel 15:13, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
