Many thanks!
I just wanted to thank you so much for putting a lot of time into helping us out with WikiProject Gastropods. It is very kind of you. We need all the help we can get because it's a very small group of people working on a huge class of organisms. Best wishes, Invertzoo (talk) 19:29, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
The Bio-Barnstar
I award this Barnstar to Ganeshk for all the work he is putting into getting our six hundred brand new Conus stubs up and running! You are very generous and a good Wikipedian. Invertzoo (talk) 19:32, 26 March 2010 (UTC) |
- I would also like to thank you sincerely, Ganesh. Projects like ours, which are beginning to emerge, really need this kind of help. Attitudes like yours make our days brighter around here! My very best wishes --Daniel Cavallari (talk) 04:35, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- Congratulations! The article Conus ebraeus, that you have started, appeared on Portal:Gastropods. --Snek01 (talk) 00:07, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks Daniel and Michal. Your help with the bot approval process is greatly appreciated. I am glad the stubs are done. The long wait is over. :) Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 01:49, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- It is great to have them up. I was also wondering if there is an automated process that would allow us to add templates for WikiProject Gastropods onto all of the talk pages of the new articles? (A very few have been added by hand, but most are untagged.) Many thanks, Invertzoo (talk) 12:22, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- Done. I have tagged 470 talk pages with the project banner. I used AWB for the automation. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 13:30, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

- Wow, fantastic! Thanks so much Ganesh! That was fast! Can we also use AWB to add the missing info...
clade [[Hypsogastropoda]] ...to all of the Conus taxoboxes? A few of them have it already, but very few. Invertzoo (talk) 14:08, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- Yes...it can be done. Doing.... Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 14:24, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- You are so very kind, Ganesh, you are truly a manifestation of "The Remover of Obstacles"! I guess I can't use AWB, even if I wanted to learn how, because I am on a Mac. Invertzoo (talk) 14:58, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- Done. I have added the missing clade to all Conus species that matched. That's right, AWB needs Windows. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 16:09, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

- I too would want to say a massive thanks for helping out creating taxonomic related articles! Maybe when you are done with all the gastropod species you can take a go at a few more somewhere under the WP:Tree of life project (I am not sure if that would require additional approval from the bot community but the species will have a source so maybe they can be created in the same way?). Cheers!Calaka (talk) 09:21, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks Calaka. I download the data from WoRMS. So the bot is limited to creating marine species. Once it is done with Gastropods, I can take a stab at the Marine Tree of Life. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 01:13, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hey no worries. Wow, you downloaded the data from the Worms registry? Would that mean you intend on making an article for every item on their list (assuming it is not a synonym?) That would be incredible/excellent (as there is well over 200,000 names on that list). The good thing about the data is that it is not just one sentence, but it contains a taxobox/ref/cat etc. and that if more info was provided by the source more could be added (as I have seen in some of the articles you created). If I was to give you other websites with species lists/data, would you consider giving them a go? Again this will be after you are well and truly done with the Worms database which I am not sure how long it would take? Understandably you do not want to do all 200,000 in one sitting but in increments (since you did all the Conus species first etc.).Calaka (talk) 08:48, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

- I use web services to download the WoRMS data. So, yes, technically it should be possible to make an article for every item on their list (that has an accepted status). The bot uses CSVLoader plugin that can use any CSV data file (from WoRMS or any other source) to create articles. The important thing is to make sure the bot has some kind of project supervision, people knowledgeable with the species. Marine taxonomy is complicated and prone to errors. With Gastropods, Michal helps me understand where a particular family belongs before I let the bot do anything. We are working on one family at a time so that if we do make any errors, it should be easy to fix. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 00:04, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- Ah yes good point, if you do the articles via a bot, to always have a wikiproject to back you up as you clearly do with the gastropod articles. All the best with the marine articles. Looking forward to see them all complete! Kind regards.Calaka (talk) 07:46, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- Oh and PS:In addition to species will the bot be creating additional taxonomic rankings (genus, families etc. etc.) that are not covered on Wikipedia?Calaka (talk) 08:17, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks Calaka. I have been thinking on how to go about creating missing Genus stubs. It is tricky, have to get the CSVLoader to make lists (of species) on genus stubs (which it currently does not do). Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 13:21, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Excellent work with the new stubs. It is nice to actually see a bot running creating articles for once. In my view a bot should be generating content in this way as it makes starter articles consistent. What happened to your Indian village bot? I thought you planned on creating 638,000 articles for Indian settlements? Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:09, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. User:Tinucherian is working on creating the Indian villages. Ganeshk (talk) 15:37, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Trochoidea
Hi. Your bot has created a bunch of stubs that link to Trochoidea. Trochoidea links to a disambiguation page because there is both a superfamily (Trochoidea (superfamily) and a genus (Trochoidea (genus)). Is there anyway you could program your bot to link to the correct taxon to lighten the burden of disambiguating those links manually? I'm manually fixing the links now. Thanks. --JamesAM (talk) 03:22, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

OTRS help
Hi Ganesh. I vaguely remember you being an OTRS volunteer. If true, can you please have a look at File:PuranaanuruPalmManuscript.jpg and File:VatteluttuInscriptionAtJainaCave.jpg? The original provider of the two images has confirmed that he has send his agreement on licensing to OTRS. But, the status has not changed to OTRS received. Please advice. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 06:54, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks Ganesh. I've requested him to look at it. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 08:09, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Hello Snek and Ganeshk. You two did a great job on Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods. You read my mind. Simple, clear, clean, and with the "list of Gastropods articles by quality and importance" up on top. Beautiful.
Ganeshk: 18,452 articles!!!!!! Wow. Michal: There are chicken feet in your email box. I have asked Daniel and High Fin to help with uploads so I don't have to bug you so often. Ganeshk: To complete your initiation into the notorious Gastropod Cabal you still have to vandalize Wikipedia:WikiProject Insects. Michal: How can we find out how many insect articles there are? Thanks! You two are awesome. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:17, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Vetigastropoda complete
Hello Ganesh, I have finished Trochidae and you can import them. This will finish all Vetigastropoda on WoRMS. --Snek01 (talk) 22:51, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
- Done Trochidae is done. — Ganeshk (talk) 03:46, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Trochoidea Disambiguation
Your bot, Ganeshbot, is creating a lot of articles with just Trochoidea listed as the superfamily in the infobox. Unfortunately, this is resulting in links to a Disambiguation page. Is there any way to get the bot to go through and update the superfamily to be Trochoidea (superfamily)?
I'm sure that myself or someone else who works on DAB pages will get them fixed eventually, but having the bot go through them would make things easier.
Any help you can offer is appreciated.

- RussBot has already fixed this. — Ganeshk (talk) 12:57, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Neritimorpha complete
Hello Ganesh, all RECENT Neritimorpha is complete: only four families with few data are on WoRMS and they can be imported. --Snek01 (talk) 22:27, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
CSVLoader
Hi:) I use AWB in polish Wikipedia. How can I change only one or two parameters in infobox, when I use .csv file to update of information in planetoid infoboxes. When I was ticked "repleace", all content of article was change. Can you chelp me? Can you add this option to CSVLoader? Karol007 (talk) 23:14, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- File settings, csv file and diff (The spam filter doesn't trust me :-) There are only test changes, becouse I was first used CSVLoader to update information from data base. Maybe, I make terrible mistake in settings, and I don't know about other functions. Karol007 (talk) 02:26, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. Yesterday, I was idea, that I design graphically new bookmark in the settings and I can encourage you to expand the functions:-) Normally when I would like improve any parameters (only technic corrects), for the example, I was used regular expresions "\|(\ )*name of parameter(\ *)\=(\ *)(\-*)([0-9]*)\.([0-9]*)" and in the end work "|$1name of parameter$2=$3$4$5,$6", but this method completly can't use data from external data base. I was ticked "find and repleace" but I don't know, how can I change of value of exist (or don't exist) parameter in infoboks. Karol007 (talk) 19:06, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- I don't saw images, thx! It works, but the value in box it was change from for example "##H##" to value of parameter from file. It is very strange and I don't know how can I explain you. This value isn't nowhere in file with data (I was deleated it, when I looking of mistake). In the file, this value was exist in the previous rekord before redirect, but I think it isn't source of the problem. I was looking for in settings, but i don't find. I restart AWB, but it was actualisation and I have a problem with start again, and I can't check in new, blank setting file. Tomorrow I will check again this problem. Now, I go sleep, becouse it is 2:30 in night:) PS. I checking my talk on enWiki at 2-3 hours, when I working in Wikipedia. Karol007 (talk) 00:41, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Ganeshbot stubs
Hi, I noticed that these stubs have stub-categories, which in turn belong to taxonomic categories. Sometimes these taxonomic cats don't exist.
Reading the BRFA, I think the "correct" form is actually
. Trivial but you may wish to change it.
Rich Farmbrough, 04:52, 5 May 2010 (UTC).
- Notes to self:
- Check why Scutellina did not get created.
- Add space in
.
