Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Ccson! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 670 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Marsha Cheeks - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Harry E. Johnson - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Hello, a few months ago I started to edit on Wikipedia. When I saw the sorry state of the notable member list of my fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi, I was sucked in by the desire to elevate it to something better. The List of Alpha Phi Alpha brothers provided inspiration and guidance. List of Phi Kappa Psi brothers was promoted to featured list status yesterday. If you look closely, you'll recognize that part of how this list is organized borrows from the excellent work done on the Alpha Phi Alpha list. Thanks for the hard work that you've done. You led the way, and today another fraternity list joins the Alpha Phi Alpha list, as well as the Alpha Kappa Alpha list, in Wikipedia's small class of excellence. Gaza aid shipment

You may want to discuss your recent addition to the international reactions section here Talk:Gaza_flotilla_raid#Does_this_edit_belong_in_International_Reactions.3F

USA Today criticized the Israelis for lack of prescience for its surprise of enmity extended to the Palstenians by saying "no event was more important in the formation of Israel than the confrontation 63 years ago between the ship Exodus filled with 4500 Holocaust survivors trying to get into the Holy City, and the British Navy trying to keep them out." Three Jews were killed in the 1947 incident and the remaining were deported in to camps in Germany. The British faced recriminations from Europe and the United States, and international sentiment shifted to the Jewish settlers.[1]

Zuchinni one (talk) 21:26, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ccson! I've added a section in the discussion for the SS Exodus. I'm not sure that is really relevant, but I'm not going to undo your edit. However you may want to explain why you think inclusion is important here Talk:Gaza_flotilla_raid#SS_Exodus_in_See_Also_section

Zuchinni one (talk) 01:47, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't even know about the Exodus until I read about it today in the newspaper, so I don't have a POV--I was just reporting and I provided a verifiable and reliable source. The Exodus was traveling to Palestine in 1947, 3 dead, the living were deported, and the people who were deported became the settlers of Israel, the county that used its own navy to kill 9, deport or jail the living. In fact, someone has placed the Gaza flotilla raid on the SS Exodus page, so someone else thinks there some relevancy between these two raid. I really thought I was reporting something that was relevant and others might fing relevant given the closeness of the two boats traveling to the same location--Palestine.Ccson (talk) 01:56, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Historical perspectives

This section you created violates Wikipedia's policy of WP:Neutral point of view and WP:Original research. Focusing on the historical comparison of the exodus reflects a clear bias when a multitude of comparisons can be made, including with the Karine A Affair, 2000 Ramallah lynching and many others. The section cannot stand the test of Wikipedia's policies. Discuss on talk page before considering placing it back on the page. Plot Spoiler (talk) 04:40, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are promoting a controversial and biased analogy while ignoring all other potential parallels. This section will not make it by Wikipedia policy since it will just become a hotbed for partisan bickering. Plot Spoiler (talk) 04:56, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to be careful since all the reverts could get you a temporary ban, given the 1RR policy. Perhaps you and Plot Spoiler should discuss the addition of the Historical Perspective in the Talk section. Why not invite him to put his opinion here: Talk:Gaza_flotilla_raid#SS_Exodus_in_See_Also_section

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 17:01, 15 June 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Hello, I'm sorry for not having replied to your post in February. I have been off wiki for one year but now I'm back. I updated the automatic translation (I guess) made for the two last XXI century paragraphs : the one on Haiti earthcake and the other on the Arizona Senat Bill. Fair use rationale for File:Kappahistbook.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Kappahistbook.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 18:15, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Kappahistbook.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Kappahistbook.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 16:41, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question about uploading a picture for William B Rumford (an Alpha)

I noticed that you've done some edits on William Byron Rumford, my grandfather. I'm pretty new to editing Wikipedia, so perhaps you could tell me whether it's appropriate to upload a picture that was likely his official picture as a state assemblyman, but I have no way of verifying. The photo is not from the Internet, I own the photograph and have scanned it to my computer.

I have dozens of other pictures of him, but few if any where I can verify the photographer and ask for permission. He is, of course, deceased, so I can't take any new pictures with my own camera. Can you tell me whether it's okay to upload the picture, or direct me to someone who knows about these matters?

Duplicated extra description of Alpha Phi Alpha.

There a number of articles (more than 150) on Wikipedia with an almost identical phrase that I'm uncomfortable with and I think you may have written most of them. They are either "... is/was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans" or the same with "organization" instead of "fraternity". For most, if not all of them, while the fact that they belonged to Alpha Phi Alpha belongs in the article, the additional description does not. IMO, most of them should be altered to "... is/was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity". I thought that I would drop you a line before going any farther.Naraht (talk) 03:03, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alpha Phi Alpha Conventions.

Could you look at User:Naraht/apac and let me know of any ideas you have? I was given the list from the back of the history book by an Alpha Phi Alpha brother that I know well. Most of the other Noble 9 have a page for their conventions at this time, I started with the structure for the Sigmas, but added the anniversary since conventions are described by both number and anniversary.Naraht (talk) 03:50, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. William P. Foster

Although I am sure you if you researched the matter, I'm sure you are able to find substantial resources that would support many of these brothers being members of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; however, here's a fraternity memo (that you can find on the internet) that was sent out by the national president of Alpha Phi Alpha, Herman "Skip" Mason, regarding the passing of Dr. William P. Foster: http://forum.the5thquarter.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10004

Just the same, you can go on youtube and watch a video of The Lords of the Underground and see for yourself the brother wearing his fraternity letters, as well as rapping a verse about his membership in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.92.10.208 (talk) 22:46, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. William P. Foster

I am so proud of how maintain the page regarding Alpha Phi Alpha and legitimize all the information, however, regarding some of the notable brothers whom you have not seen or been shown reliable resource to justify some of the names making the list; but I would think that you could easily research the information on line yourself and either find some credible source to substantiate some of these listed names. For example, I know for a fact that Dr. William P. Foster is a brother of Alpha. I researched Dr. William P. Foster and came across a Kenneth Spencer Research Library website at the University of Kansas that has research documents listed on Dr. William P. Foster; and it is noted that he is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. The website is as follows: http://etext.ku.edu/view?docId=ksrlead/ksrl.kc.fosterwilliam.xml;route=ksrlead;brand=ksrlead;query= 24.92.10.208 (talk) 05:00, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
