Good job
Hi Penwatchdog. I just read I AM THE BEST ARTIST Rene and found it very interesting. Thanks for contributing it. I must congratulate you on learning how to use Wikipedia in such a short time. Well done.
I'll help you build up the article so that people won't try to delete it again. Best regards. 64.40.57.47 (talk) 18:07, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
You can reply here
Hi again, Penwatchdog. You can leave a reply here and I will see it.
- CHEERS par'ner, especially to whomever came thru with the buried-treasure-sources; owe'ya a case'a wine for that! meanwhile i'm still learning, & still digging for the full Rene Moncada article! btw...
- anyone out there who can dig up anything about an unsung-but-notable guitarist "Kenny Gwynn(Gwyn?) & The Board of Directors" :research help requested! for use within an existing article of The Jane hotel in NYC; a Rock club called (The?) Inner Circle existed in it's basement in the mid-80's, guest musicians as Jaco Pastorius(Weather Report) & Jorma Kaukonen(Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna) regularly showed up for jam sessions there.Penwatchdog (talk) 12:44, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
- new york alterna-culture is an aim; japanese language & wiki-article-translations of it are something i'll be investigating forthwith, heretofore, adnauseum...Penwatchdog (talk) 12:20, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Encouragement
You probably already noticed this, but I'm unreliable. It's true. I'm easily distracted and often don't get back to the things I wanted to do. Anyhoo, enough of that.
I'm guessing, but I expect your time here has been as bad as mine. Being mistreated, having your stuff deleted and such. I know how bad it sucks. But you are important. You are a writer and encyclopedias are made up of words written by... well... writers. That means you are more important than those other guys. You know it and I know it. So don't let them mess with you or get you down. You belong here at this project and your contributions are important.
The Writer's Barnstar | ||
In appreciation for contributing valuable articles to Wikipedia and being a damn good writer, I'm happy to present Penwatchdog the Writer's Barnstar. You've done a lot of good work, and that needs to be recognized by the community. You have knowledge of many things that are not covered by the encyclopedia, and by contributing, you are helping to improve the project. You are valuable and I appreciate the work you've done. 64.40.54.190 (talk) 13:26, 9 May 2012 (UTC) |
I also wanted to thank you for the IATBA article. I didn't know anything about Rene or the Soho art scene until I read your article, so thanks for that. I've found a number of references about Rene and I'll try and put those somewhere for any future Rene article. I'll try and keep an eye out for you in case people mess with you again. I am keeping an eye on the IATBA deletion stuff and it looks like it will be safe. If it does get deleted, I will be back to save it. I'm hoping to see if I can find any references for the other articles you mentioned above, but like I said, I'm unreliable, so no promises. Best of luck to you. 64.40.54.190 (talk) 13:26, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

and yes, we can simply wait until the deletion process is finished.mabdul 13:57, 10 May 2012 (UTC)- The nominator withdrawn the nomination and thus I closed the AfD. mabdul 14:04, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

- thanks to you ALL~ hey i'm working on the article for the "best artist" himself Rene Moncada, so if anyone has anything about him beyond the murals (which i know to exist) please get it to me if & when possible~ prior to that, though, i have a second article i'd like to post but... is there such a thing as submitting-too-much-too-soon?? i don't wanna step on any toes or outlive my welcome! "is there such a thing as submitting-too-much-too-soon??"
Nope. You should write while you're enthusiastic, so now is a good time to write. 64.40.54.219 (talk) 14:36, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Safe place to edit
Any article you create in your userspace is safe from deletion, so long as it isn't a copyright violation or an attack on a person. I don't think you have to worry about either of those. So you can make User:Penwatchdog/Rene Moncada and User:Penwatchdog/Kenny Gwynn & The Board of Directors and User:Penwatchdog/The? and they won't be deleted. When you think they are good enough that they won't be deleted, you can move them to article space by following the directions at WP:MOVE. If you do start any of those articles, I will try to find references for them, but no promises as I'm really unreliable. 64.40.54.219 (talk) 14:48, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Motivation!

For your great second article. Don't stop submitting such great articles! ;-) Oh and by the way: please don't do 'copy and paste' moves: there is a move link at the top. Read WP:MOVE (there is a simple image showing you that "hidden" move-link). Regards, mabdul 10:54, 30 May 2012 (UTC) |
- !THANKS, & i'll look into your directions for future use~
- after starting the article in my sandbox i continued working on it offline instead, so you may have noticed a big difference between the sandbox version and the article as it appears... i'm continuing to track down references to portions which i cut for now (OR i may just add those portions and hope someone else can help dig for references?)...
- ByTheWay: there's an article titled ballpoint pen drawing which i didnt author but the existing edit is mine; i have additions/revisions for that BUT, i'm wondering if that page should just be merged back to ballpoint pen (from which i think most of the original content originates)... the thing is, i've got a complete article-update for it BUT if it's gonna remain as its own article i think a better title would be ballpoint pen artwork... any advice which direction to take that??Penwatchdog (talk) 15:28, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
Incomplete DYK nomination
Hello! Your submission of Template:Did you know nominations/Lennie Mace at the Did You Know nominations page is not complete; see step 3 of the nomination procedure. If you do not want to continue with the nomination, tag the nomination page with {{db-g7}}, or ask a DYK admin. Thank you. DYKHousekeepingBot (talk) 01:34, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- I have moved this nomination to May 30 based on the history log and the WP:DYK and WP:DYKSG rules that you may not be aware about. With regards, George Ho (talk) 18:06, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for June 28
Hi. When you recently edited Terry O'Neill (photographer), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Diamonds Are Forever (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Image you uploaded to Commons up for deletion
Hello -- I revised the article I AM THE BEST ARTIST Rene so that the image link points at Commons, which was you original intention until a later editor uploaded an image to wikipedia and revised the article. Nonetheless, the image you uploaded to commons is up for deletion based on an argument I don't understand. Please see Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:IATBAwall.jpg . Regards --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 02:53, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Let's save this image from deletion
Hi Penwatchdog. I must apologize for not getting back to you about this image. This image is important, so let try and save it.
There are 2 things at play here.
- You own the copyright to the photograph
- Rene (or his estate) owns the copyright to the artwork.
You have given your permission to use the photograph, so now we need to get Rene's permission (or permission from his estate) to use the artwork.
The easy way
Probably the easiest way to do this is to send an email to Rene using the email address at his official website and explain the situation. Tell them this;
- You admired Rene's work and took the picture
- You wrote an article for Wikipedia about Rene
- You added the picture and released the photograph under the Creative Commons license CC-BY-SA 3.0
- You'd like them to release the artwork under the Creative Commons license CC-BY-SA 3.0 so it can be used in the Wikipedia article
- They can do this by grabbing the image from http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bc/IATBAwall.jpg
- Then they need to put that image on their website somewhere and include this sentence "This image is released under the Creative Commons license CC-BY-SA 3.0" next to the image.
I believe this is the easiest solution.
The hard way
The "official" way is a bit harder. The official way is documented at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission and requires Rene (or his estate) to send an email to Wikipedia stating that they release the image under a Creative Common license that we accept. It has to be very specific and include some legal mumbo-jumbo. There are some samples of how to do this at Wikipedia:Example requests for permission.
I think the easy way above is more likely to work, but it's your choice as to which one you want to try. Either way, we need Rene's permission to use the artwork. Again, I'm sorry I didn't help you with this earlier. Please let me know if you have any questions. Best reagrds. 64.40.54.79 (talk) 10:24, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
The Fair-Use way
I'm adding one more choice here and that is to use the image under Fair-use. For that we have to shrink the image down to 300 pixels wide (i.e. low quality) and write a detailed fair-use rational. This doesn't require us to get permission from anybody. Please let me know if you'd like to do that instead of one of the above choices. Best regards. 64.40.54.79 (talk) 10:55, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
- For the case that the hard and easy way doesn't work, I will do this and uploading it so that no more problems occur. (btw: the 'inofficial' rule is: 400x400 pixel or a maximum of 160000 pixel^2) mabdul 12:23, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
- THANKS for your interest and assistance! this has been really untimely for me, for separate personal reasons, but i've been trying to keep up with it... the Commons administrator who sent the notification has instructed me how to proceed, so i've begun that process on my own. i'm in direct contact with the-best-artist himself and expect his cooperation in confirming his permission with Commons.
- a separate problem i've encountered in the past 24-hours: yesterday a new article i was taking public from my sandbox, in a rush on the computer i inadvertantly mis-directed it to "wikipedia" instead of "article" and now it's disappeared and not coming out in searches. i've notified one other guardian angel to assist but haven't heard back and that angel may be off-line for the weekend... the article is "James Mylne (artist)" and it's ready for public consumption if only i can find it! help if you can and let me know if i can help you in any way! Ballpoint pen artwork DYK
Hi Penwatchdog. I have to say I love your writing style. The Ballpoint pen artwork article is excellent and I had no idea that people did art like that... and so well too.
About the DYK stuff, the DYK guys can be really tough. And I mean REALLY tough. There were a number of people that submitted DYKs for years that ended up leaving after the process got changed to be more strict. I just wanted to say that up front, in case you don't want to put up with all the BS... and there's a lot of BS there.
First, the DYK people are going to criticize everything little thing. The first thing they'll go after are the images. They'll want artist's permissions for all the images. Just like the Rene IATBA image stuff you've been dealing with lately. The next thing they'll go after are the references. they'll want all of the references to be from books, magazines and newspapers. Then they'll go after the language. They'll want it to be written very dry and formal. We can do all this if your up to it. One thing I've seen people do is to hack away at their article to get it past DYK and then revert it back afterwords. That's something we can do if you like.
I can start hacking away at the article to get it past DYK if you want. Or I could tell you what to do if you'd rather do it yourself. Please let me know how you'd like to proceed. Best regards. 64.40.54.88 (talk) 13:02, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
