Laketon Township is a township located in Muskegon County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 7,363.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 48.4 km² (18.7 mi²). 44.8 km² (17.3 mi²) of it is land and 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 7.28% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 7,363 people, 2,682 households, and 2,121 families residing in the township. The population density is 164.2/km² (425.4/mi²). There are 2,808 housing units at an average density of 62.6 persons/km² (162.2 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 95.78% White, 0.77% African American, 0.57% Native American, 0.65% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 1.67% from two or more races. 2.05% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,682 households out of which 37.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.6% are married couples living together, 6.0% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 20.9% are non-families. 17.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.11.
