Here she gained a bachelor's degree in International Politics, with her thesis concentrating on terrorism as a global issue. This lead to work with the Council on Foreign Relations and then as a reporter for ABC News, specializing in terrorism. It is this period in her life that she credits with inspiring her to focus on the link between food and violence.[5]
