Wendlandia psychotrioides is a species of plant in the Rubiaceae family. It is an extinct species,[1] apparently endemic to Queensland wet tropics.[2] It was scientifically described by notable colonial Melbourne Herbarium botanist Ferdinand von Mueller in 1889 & 1892. The specific name is described as like Psychotria. "W. Sayer"[3] collected specimens of it about "Mt Bellenden Ker" in 1887 as recorded on Ferdinand von Mueller’s "9/87" label on his herbarium specimen sent to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, UK on 15 March 1892.[4] "On the Russell River; W. Sayers [sic]" is recorded in Ferdinand von Mueller’s 1889 original botanical description of it.[5] The region of the Russell River is the same as the region of Mount Bellenden Ker. Mueller’s 1889 original botanical description of the species was under the name Oldenlandia psychotrioides.[5][6] In 1892 he re-diagnosed it as constituting a species in the genus Wendlandia and wrote some comparative notes on it and related species in that genus.[7][8]
