Kaio

"Kaio" may also refer to Kaio Hiroyuki a professional sumo wrestler.
"Kaiō" is also a Japanese surname. It can refer to several people or fictional characters, including Michiru Kaioh, a character in Sailor Moon.

The Kaiô (Kai) are upper-level gods of the fictional Dragon Ball universe. The name Kaiô is a conjunction of the word for kai for 'World' and ô for 'King'. There are five per galaxy, with one presiding over each of the four quadrants and the last (the Dai Kaiô or Grand Kai) overseeing them all. The Kaiô are responsible for the lower-level gods Kami, who rule over individual planets. The Kaiô reside in the Other World.

Above the Kaiô are the Kaiôshin (in English dubbed Supreme Kai), who look after the entire universe. Like the regular Kaiô;, there is one for each quadrant and a Dai Kaiôshin to preside over them. Or at least that was the established order, until Majin Buu killed or absorbed most of the Kaiôshin, with only the East Kaiôshin surviving.

Kaiô (Kai)

All Kaiô are colorful skinned toad-like creatures with sunglasses.

  • North Kaiô - (King Kai) The Kaiô of the quandrant of the galaxy where Earth resides. In the English manga, he is also known as Lord of the Worlds. Very humorous; if you laugh at his stupid jokes he will like you. Trains those who can reach the end of the never ending Snakeway road. He trained Goku, who succeeded in doing so and taught him very powerful techniques that have been essential to many of his battles: the Genki Dama (Spirit Bomb) and the Kaiô-ken.
  • East Kaiô - This Kaiô is a woman with pale lime-green skin and orange-blonde hair at the After-Life Budoukai, though she had no participants from her quadrant. Her quadrant is known for having fast fighters, like Globe. Rides a hover bike.
  • West Kaiô - Very short and chubby, purple Kaiô with a monocle. His star pupil is Template:DB:LDBc (Pikkon).
  • South Kaiô - Rival of North Kaiô, he claims his pupil, Papoi, would mop the floor with Goku. South Kaiô also makes fun of North Kaiô for being dead. His quadrant has the reputation of being a peaceful area of space because all the fighters from this quadrant are comparatively weak. He is the only other Kaiô to appear in the manga.
  • Dai Kaiô - Eccentric and cooky, sly-talking old man that likes rock music. Hosts the After-life Budokai. Reputed to be the greatest fighter in the universe, but he has been out of training for centuries. Still trains others.

Kaiôshin (Supreme Kai)

All Kaiôshin have their hair in a mohawk.

  • East Kaiôshin - ((East) Supreme Kai) The only surviving Kaiôshin of Buu's assault under Bibidi's reign, although just barely. Mostly just goes by Kaiôshin or Supreme Kai since he's the only one. Youthful purple Kaiôshin.
    • Kibito - East Kaiôshin's loyal companion. Not actually a Kaiôshin himself.
      • Template:DB:LDBC - (Kibito Kai, Kaiobito) Permanent fusion between Kibito and East Kaiôshin.
  • South Kaiôshin - (South Supreme Kai) Strongest of the Kaiôshin, he is a muscular man he was absorbed by Buu during Bibidi's reign. This absorption beefed up Kid Buu.
  • North Kaiôshin - (North Supreme Kai) Master swordsman that sliced Buu thinking it would kill him. Once Buu showed that it didn't, he killed him.
  • West Kaiôshin - (West Supreme Kai) Female Kaiôshin killed by Buu.
  • Dai Kaiôshin - (Grand Supreme Kai) Looks a lot like Fat Buu, with his trademark squint eyes, fat pink body and clothes. Fat Buu looks like him because Buu absorbed him, he made Buu become weaker and ammoral (as opposed to raw evil) due to his good nature.
  • Rou Dai Kaiôshin - (Elder Kai, Old Kai) A former Dai Kaiôshin from 15 generations back who was imprisoned within the Z Sword. He also is fused to a nameless witch. He unlocks Son Gohan's potential. Looks like an ancient ancestor of East Kaiôshin. He has an 'old' appearance because of his fusion with an old witch generations ago; she stole his Potara earring and put it on her ear.

Special Abilities

All Kaioshin possess these abilities:

  • Kai Kai - {nice 1 }Teleportation without the need to lock on to someone's ki, which is required using Goku's Instant transmission method. Its allows Instant transportation to any place, anywhere. Its possible that it can break the Temporal barriers as well.
  • Kanashibari no Jyutsu - This technique will freeze a person or thing perfectly in place, using psychic powers. However, the user must not get distracted, or they will lose control of the victim.
  • Ki Aigan - An attack that fires a wave of ki at an opponent by just looking that them. It is apparently not that strong since it didn't do any damage at all to Majin Buu.
  • Toomi no Jyutsu - Yet another psychic technique that all Kaioshins have access to. It is the ability to sense what is going on in a different part of universe basically a supercharged version of Powerlevel Sensing abilities. As a side effect it give them a limited form of Omniscience.
  • Bushitsu Shyutsu Gen Majyutsu "Magic Materialism" - This is the ability to create objects, such as weapons, crystal balls, clothes, etc. It is quite possible that through this ability Dragonballs could be created as well.
  • Kiai - By merely screaming a kaiôshin can deflect and reflect any attack. Dai Kaiôshin used this against Super Kid Buu when he tried to kill East Kaiôshin.
