WildStar is an upcoming science fiction massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Carbine Studios and published by NCsoft for Microsoft Windows. WildStar takes place on the fictional planet Nexus, where a mysterious and powerful race known as the Eldan have disappeared leaving behind a wealth of technology and secrets for players to explore.[1][2]

On May 24, Jeremy Gaffney, Executive producer on WildStar, stated in an interview that WildStar would be using a "Hybrid Business Model". [3]

Plot

This game takes place on the fictional planet Nexus, which had just been discovered. This world was once inhabited by the Eldans, an hyper-advanced race who disappeared long ago. Two factions, the Dominion and the Exiles, are fighting to take control of Nexus and of all its concealed technology[4].

The Dominion is an intergalactic empire who decided that this planet belongs to them and should be explored to discover the lost technology[5].

The Exiles are a group of refugees and outlaws who had all been driven out from their respective homelands by the Dominion and joined forces to fight them[6].

Gameplay

Wildstar takes place in an open, persistant world environment.[7] Wildstar will use trinity-based grouping system, with available roles of Tank, Healer and DPS. Each class will be either a tank/dps or healer/dps[8]

Races

There will be 8 playable races in Wildstar, 4 for each faction. Two races are not yet revealed. The races of the Dominion will be :

  • Cassian
  • Draken
  • Mechari
  • TBA

The races of the Exiles will be :

  • Human
  • Granok
  • Aurin

Cassian

Cassians are humans who have been chosen by the Eldans two thousands years ago. They came to Nexus in order to take control of their formerly home planet[9].

Draken

The Draken were picked by the Dominion in order to increase their armed forces. They see Nexus as a challenge, a place to prove themselves in battle against unknown creatures[10][11].

Mechari

The Mechari are robots who were once created by Eldans to serve as soldiers. Due to their origin, they decided to head to Nexus to retrieve information about how they were born[12][13].

Human

Humans come from Cassus, the home planet of the Dominion. However, they rebelled several hundred years ago. They managed to escape and roamed out in the galaxy. They had to settle down on Nexus before their ships critical systems fail[14].

Granok

The Granok were approached by the Dominion to use them as troops, but they refused the offer and a war started that the Granok began losing. A leader emerged from Granok forces, and the battle turned over. This started Granok's exile from Gnox, their homeland[15].

Aurin

The Aurin come from the forested planet of Arboria, which was invaded by the Dominion. They were rescued by their human friends and joined the Exiles to fight the Dominion[16].

Classes

There will be 6 classes in Wildstar, 2 of them are not yet revealed :

  • Warrior
  • Spellslinger
  • Stalker
  • Esper

The soldier path focuses on combat, mainly attack and defense missions

The settler path is a social path, where players can build structures in the open world that will help the others.

Scientist

The scientist path focuses on learning and achieving everything.

Development

Development of Wildstar started in 2005, after 17 members of Blizzard Entertainment founded Carbine Studios. In 2007, NCSOFT acquired Carbine Studios. [19]
