Gongchen Tower on top of the Gongchen Gate

Gongchen Tower (Chinese: 拱辰楼) was a historic monument located in the ancient city of Weishan in the Chinese province of Yunnan. The tower was destroyed by a fire on January 3, 2015.[1]

Gongchen Tower was built in 1390 during the Ming dynasty on top of the northern gate of the Weishan city wall. At more than 600 years old, it was one of the oldest and best preserved ancient towers in Yunnan until its destruction by fire. Gongchen Tower was considered a symbol of Weishan, and was listed as a key cultural protection site by the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture in 1988.[2]
