More Questions

The history of this may be wrong, there was an earlier Fantome (ex Belem) smaller than the Windjammer ship. This was stated as being owned by Guiness as well. The article here may be a mix of both ships.

questions

1. Why does this page state that the Fantome is a windjammer, while judging by the picture she is rigged as a staysailschooner. The page doesn't make any notification of a transformation. 2. why is this page named 'SV Fantome'? SV is a prefix and not part of a ships name, (see many many other ship articles) I suggest renaming it 'Fantome (ship)' Ian Splinter (talk) 12:42, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't necessarily object to moving this article to its current name but I think that your rational, as noted in the edit summary: articles about ship shouldn't have a prefix in there article name but just the ship name, is incorrect. See WP:SHIPNAME.

Thanks for giving me the heads up on that particular page, apparently rules/guidlines/standards about that are different among wikipedia's in different languages. Makes me wonder how can you tell if a ships is known with or without prefix? Among the English wikipedia I haven't seen much pages about civil ships with there prefix to be honest. Back in April when I first found this I made the above comment, and not haven't had any reply, together with thing about the sail plan, made me want to change it. But to be honest, if the part of the sail plan wasn't there aswell, I probably wouldn't have bothered. Ian Splinter (talk) 17:09, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Not surprising that en.wiki will do things differently from nl.wiki or es.wiki, etc.; we all live mostly in our own little cloistered universes. I think that the general practice here in en.wiki is to follow whatever forms are most commonly used in the sources that support the article. Articles about civilian ships with prefixed titles are quite common though not nearly as universal as, for example, British and American military ship articles which almost always use a prefix, even for articles about future or pre-commission units.
