The final of the 2015 Cricket World Cup is scheduled to take place on 29 March 2015 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Australia. It will be played between co-hosts New Zealand,[1] and Australia.

Background

It will be New Zealand's first World Cup Final.[1] Their previous best performance was semi-finalists, on six occasions between 1975 and 2011.

Road to the final

New Zealand topped Pool A, winning all six games against Sri Lanka, Scotland, England, Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.[2] In their quarter-final at the Wellington Regional Stadium, New Zealand defeated the West Indies by 143 runs, and in the semi-finals at Eden Park in Auckland they won by 4 wickets on the Duckworth–Lewis method against South Africa.[1][3] Australia finished second in Pool A, losing against New Zealand and having a game washed out against Bangladesh. In their quarter-final, they defeated Pakistan by 6 wickets. They then qualified for the final by beating India by 95 runs in the semi-final at the SCG.[4]
