Collaborator is a peer code review and document review software application by SmartBear Software, headquartered in Somerville, Massachusetts.[1][2][3] [4] This tool is used by teams to standardize their review process, reduce defects early, and speed up their development timelines. Companies in highly-regulated industries like Automotive, Healthcare, Aerospace, Finance, and Embedded Systems also use the detailed review reports in Collaborator to meet compliance burdens.

Key features

  • Custom workflows and review templates make Collaborator flexible to the needs of each team or project.[5]
  • Detailed reports and metrics that enable teams to drive a continuous improvement process.[6]
  • E-signatures, time stamps, and custom checklists for meeting compliance standards like ISO 26262, DO-178C, and CMMI.[7]
  • Defect marking by severity and real-time comments make it easy to see the status of code and document reviews and whether issues have been resolved or not.[8]

Integrations

Collaborator integrates with a number of source control management tools, bug tracking tools, and integrated development environments such as:[9][10]

History

  • Collaborator was originally named Code Collaborator as the original product of SmartBear software founded by Jason Cohen in 2003 [14] [15] [16]
  • Cohen sold Smartbear in 2010 as part of a merger of three different companies Automated QA, Pragmatic Software and SmartBear. [17]
  • Code Collaborator was the winner of the 2008 collaboration tools Jolt award [18]
