He owned slaves. It's fair to define him as a person who owned slaves. Do you really want to push that that's not important?
Hänschen Klein
Hi, I added this secton to Hänschen Klein:
The melody of the song is also used in a popular children's song in Japan (蝶々, Chocho) and Korea (나비야, Nabiya).
Unfortunately you have removed it due to a missing citation. It would be great if you could add it back.
I don't have a primary source for this. However, if you use Google Translate on the Japanese or Korean version of the article they will both say that Hänschen Klein's melody is used in Japan/Korean with different lyrics (about a butterfly) and that the melody is identical with the German original. Another "source" is myself as I have family in both Germany and Korea and hence know both the German and Korean version of the song, which have the same melody (surely not a conincidence).

Melbourne Storm Current Squad
Hello Meterialscientist,
I changed the formatting of the layout to align the players playing positions with their pages as well as remove the team list numbers because it does not add anything to the page, and makes the squad layout quite messy.
I can add the squad numbers to the new text if that's the reason you undid my edit, but otherwise please don't undo my edit.

Materialscientist, just wanted to give you a heads up I reverted your revert of User Dan Treacy's edit. We had been going back forth on their talk page about adding a citation and they finally had one. However, their first edit did not contain the source so was flagged, thus your revert. I was blocked by you for 6 months for disruptive editing, and I have no idea why. Can you please let me know what I did? Pseudoscientist Gwyneth Paltrow
Hello, you reverted an edit I made describing Gwyneth Paltrow as a pseudoscientist, when she is, in fact, a pseudoscientist. I object to your stated justification for doing so (you deemed it "not constructive"). It is highly constructive in that people will more readily have access to information which is crucial for their determination of her legitimacy as someone who not only offers advice on health and wellness, but profits greatly from the sale of related products and services. I will continue to vehemently object to your objections and insist on the edit remaining, because such edits reduce the likelihood of the uninformed falling victim to her pseudoscientific claims and spending money on her line of snake oil products. Frankly, your censorship runs the risk of causing real harm. Your dismissal of my edits as attempts at "vandalism" is offensive, unfounded, and plainly wrong. Your opposition, despite your level of education, leads me to think that you lack familiarity with the extent of her unscrupulous, manipulative business practices, so before you revert my edit and throw around accusations of vandalism, I suggest you do further research or at the very least provide a compelling argument for reverting the edit. Thank you. Respectfully, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stardig (talk • contribs)

You should unprotect that article. The only disruptive edits on it in nearly a week were all made by the same user, and the one before those was the first since July. None of these edits are anywhere near the level of disruption where we would need to apply editing restrictions for a whole year, and unnecessarily applying such restrictions stifles constructive changes such as this one. Hi Material. I have a bee under my bonnet about having my edits reverted, labelled "unconstructive", and being told to "use the sandbox". I find these attitudes condescending, and think reversion is the lowest form of editing, sort of like sarcasm is to humour.
I also don't remember working on the Pratt and Whitney engine article you mentioned on my talk page, I'll go have a look. You might have the wrong person. I notice you have got a number of other people upset with blocking and reversion. Maybe time for a little self reflection?
If you don't understand an edit of mine, why not ask me what I was up to? If you think you can improve it, then tweak what I said.
Wikipedia should be a wellspring of constant improvement, not a cesspool of reversion.

Pre-halogen nonmetal
Further to our recent chat re the other nonmetals H, C, N, O, P, S and Se, it seems like a completely generic term would be pre-halogen nonmetal, since that is what they are, no more no less. Your thoughts? thank you, Sandbh (talk) 06:37, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- I don't see what do we gain by adding "pre-halogen". This implies there are "post-halogen nonmetals", but I won't call noble gases nonmetals, even though they can be solid. Also, this makes halogens some elite elements, while arguably C, H and N are more important. Also, "pre" is a stretch for C, H, and even N, P (they are "pre" to O, S, Se, not to halogens). What is gained: Introductory inorganic chemistry is traditionally taught by contrasting the alkali metals with the halogens. Currently, we mush the halogen nonmetals into the same category as the other nonmetals.
Noble gases: In the literature these are regarded as nonmetals by effectively everyone.
Halogens as elite: Yes, they are. Non-metallic character can be gauged by values of ionization energy, electron affinity, and electronegativity. The higher the values the greater the non-metallic character. Table 1 shows the halogen nonmetals have consistently high values for all three criteria. In contrast, the pre-halogen nonmetals have, on a net basis, moderate values for these criteria. Further examination shows that the metalloids, on the same basis, have low values.
Importance of C, H, S: Agree. That they are not regarded as being as "famous" arises from them not having a unifying term "other" than "other", which sounds like it's just the grab-bag of what doesn't have any other unifying theme ("everything that isn't something else in particular").
"Pre-": The analogy, in usage terms, is to post-transition metals, which refers to the metals in groups 12–17 i.e. effectively nobody refers to Sn and Pb as being post- In and Tl etc.
I hope this assuages your concerns. Sandbh (talk) 07:49, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, reasonable, but, I still see no use in adding "pre-halogen" there. A trivial note: halogens can be easily grouped owing to their similarities, but you are trying to group extremely different elements (say, H, C and O). To me, their most essential similarity is that they are "organic". Materialscientist (talk) 08:04, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

Yes, you're right they're rather different elements; three gases and four solids spread over four groups. That said, they feature a rich array of shared characteristics including their "organic" similarity. For example, we have just seven biogeochemical cycle articles in WP, one each for H, C, N, O, S, P and Se.
There's some history. Our PT has had three categories of nonmetal for 16 out of 18 years, including when it was first set up in 2002, based on an examination of the literature. Long story short we've recently had just two categories out of dissatisfaction with the name "other nonmetal".
Three nonmetal categories facilitates a balanced comparison of metal and nonmetal types per Fig. 1. There are some good sources in the literature about this, for example:
- "Across each period is a more or less steady transition from an active metal through less active metals and weakly active non-metals to highly active nonmetals and finally to an inert gas."
- – Beiser A, Perspectives of modern physics, McGraw-Hill, New York, p. 234 (1968)
- "Between the "virulent and violent" metals on the left of the periodic table, and the "calm and contented" metals to the right are the transition metals, which form "a transitional bridge" between the two extremes.
- – Atkins PA, The periodic kingdom: A journey into the land of the chemical elements, Phoenix, London, pp. 24–25 (2001)

The requester Glasgow's peter has never edited the article and the adding of this request is that account's first and only WP edit. Do admins have a "revert, ask questions later" policy? Could you at least explain how deleting unsourced info is disruptive? My gosh.
- I'd like to point out that "Materialscientist" recently spent 3 hours and 20 minutes, making an average of one revert per 48 seconds-- for a total of 252 reverts (on, I suppose, 252 different articles).
Obviously this behavior is "disruptive," but one can't really describe it as "editing." 2600:1702:39A0:3720:4C17:83CD:29C5:2FE4 (talk) 20:57, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
- (TPS) I looked at a small sample of their recent reverts (about 18 of them) and did not find any of them disruptive. Only 1-2 seemed to require further explanation, though I could explain them if asked. Reverting non-constructive edits is the role some editors like Materialscientist take. CLCStudent's AIV reports are at ANI
Hi Materialscientist, CLCStudent's AIV reports are at ANI. I have a feeling you may like to have a look ~ ToBeFree (talk) 16:07, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
"former vandal, current Wikipedia man"
[3] appears not to have an encyclopedically beneficial level of maturity to contribute to the project and seems to have admitted to sockpuppetry unless there's something I'm missing (it is a crazy morning in the JDLiverse and I haven't been able to research past blocks). I thought I'd add him to someone else's radar. Hope you're well! Take care and thanks for all your support! - Julietdeltalima (talk) 16:28, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
Request for "Domain Authority"
Hi! There is an RPP entry ([4]) for the Domain Authority page. Since you, too, helped clean up some of the promo spam today, I thought you might be interesting in it. If not, please pardon the interruption. Cheers! — UncleBubba ( T @ C ) 17:41, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Hey, thank you for reverting comments left by that troll on Kapanen's page as well as on mine. I read all the nasty comments that person left. Is there a chance just to block their IP? I'd say some of the comments they left are quite nasty. Suden13 (talk) 00:46, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
Reverts
Your contribution page reveals 252 reverts today between the hours of 15:56 and 19:18, according to a simple word search.
That's something like one revert per minute for three and a half hours.
Do you use a BOT? I don't know how Wikipedia works. Seems like a red flag.
And yes you reverted my edits, yet seem entirely unengaged as an informed and collaborative editor on talk page or in article's edit history.
Discussion is (and was) open on the article's talk page.

- (talk page stalker) No, Materialscientist is not a bot, but rather one of our most active editors. And after a while here, a good WiFi connection and some time on your hands (and maybe a good cookie) is all you need to start really racking up edits. I think they have over 1.2 million edits over the course of 12 years.
- For your other point, Materialscientist didn't think your edits were an improvement, so they reverted them. They then explained why they reverted your edits - they were a deterioration in quality of the article lead, both in formatting and style. Also, it is perfectly normal for editors to revert contributions they think are unhelpful without proposing a compromise solution. Otherwise we would be stuck on 6.1 million content disputes. Regards, Giraffer (munch) 08:40, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
No. It's quite impossible to RESPONSIBLY make more than 250 reverts, across hundreds of articles, in less than 3.5 hours.
(An average of 48 seconds per revert, nonstop for 3.5 hours!)
This guy needs to get restrained.

Thank goodness for those 252 speed-edits.
- "didn't think your edits were an improvement, so they reverted them... they were a deterioration in quality of the article lead, both in formatting and style.."
Having spent 30 years in newswriting, and recently having read the article's topic, (Heidegger's "Being and Time") for the fourth go-through, I'm glad Materialscientist was able to spot the harm I've caused to an existing, hair-brained Wikipedia lede. Sorry! (It's gotten a little better since the deletion).
But I'd say it's the BODY of the article that could use deletion, given its almost complete reliance on primary source.

Bahraich
Sir, would you kindly PP the Bahraich article. This IP again added unsourced content. They seem to be using this article as a means to complain against the state government or something [5] . -Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:50, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- Awesome . - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:15, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
This program's license converted to GNU GPL license on April 2020. It's already mentioned in article. I also removes old references dated on 2009, 2011 and 2017 and I puts new reference instead this.

Duane Clarridge
Tell the truth isn't constructive? C'mon, man. This guy causes the death of THOUSANDS of people here in SA. It's unfair you guys protect a kind of immaculate image of him. I agree some of my editions are out of limits, but the most part are only the truth. Can I put it again minus insults?
A barnstar for you!

Query
Morning MS. I'd like your advice on edits made to this article. I've been reverting them per WP:BLPREMOVE and WP:3RRBLP, but the editor involved simply restores the info. I believe point seven (..."biased, unsourced, or poorly sourced...") is covered here in WP:3RRBLP. I've tried to discuss this with the user, which leads them to say things such as "Face me If you have the guts". I don't want to fall foul of 3RR, hence bringing it here for a second opinion. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:25, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help this morning. However, the edit was simply reverted, albeit manually. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:47, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Blocking me
How dare you to block me? Govtindiabihar (talk) 15:14, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
- (by talk reader) @Govtindiabihar: You are edit warring to put your preferred un-sourced content on an article, which isn't allowed. We require published reliable sources and we don't care what's true. If you continue like this, you'll end up blocked permanently. Chris Troutman (talk) 15:25, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Photo of James H Donovan
When I originally uploaded the scan of the original photo with the former senator a few years ago I was under the impression that it was effectively copyrighted since I didn't know who the government staffer that took the shots for us was. See Wikipedia:Media copyright questions/Archive/2009/July#Photo of a New York State Senator. Based on the public domain rational on the replacement photo, wouldn't that have applied for the photo I uploaded as well since it was 1986? Mostly just curious.
