Found it at last!
I thought about creating this article about a month ago, as having looked through the History of Libya article, I was disappointed not to find a link to this man. What a nice surprise that this article exists. It is still astounding that the History of Libya article, created in 2002, does not contain a link to this article. The link to Omar Mukhtar should clearly go in the 'Italian Colony' section, but I'm not sure exactly where to put it. Any ideas ? ---Mpatel (talk) 11:38, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

The title of this section is self-explanatory. MP (talk) 12:19, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Libyan Dinar
I believe that Omar Mukhtar is on the Libyan ten dinar. Is this noteworthy enough to be mentioned in the article (and have a picture included)? --MosheA 01:41, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
He is to Libya what Gandhi is to India and Washington is to US. Ask any Libyan. I suppose that's enough. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.195.99.153 (talk) 12:23, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Bias and Inarticulation
I've just spent the best part of an hour trying to make this confused heap of words and phrases intelligible. However, I've not enough knowledge of the Italo-Turkish War and its aftermath to guard against all the many biased statements in the article, and some still appear (if, perhaps, a bit more subtlely than before). Can anyone with a real working knowledge of the subject make the article factual and accurate?
Thanks!
ANSWER: if you dont have a knowledge about the matter, how can you say that the article is "biased" ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.13.82.105 (talk) 14:53, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

- One does not need to be knowledgeable about the subject to recognize a lack of objectivity. The article is full of "judgement adjectives" that tell us more about the writer than about the subject. The first time I wrote an article from scratch about a person I personally admire, I had to go back and edit out all the language that did not adhere the Wikipedia golden rule of "neutral point of view." Who, exactly, says that the groups Mukhtar led were "highly alert"? What is the source for the assertion that the "Italian army was left astonished and embarrassed"? Surely there are many expert sources (historians, eye-witnesses, etc.) who could be cited in order to give these characterizations authority. I understand the desire to simply say, "Mukhtar was a great man and a military genius," but without a solid, neutral point of view and adequate source citations, people who read the article will dismiss it as hero worship. A possible source
This [1] might be good to support the claim that he has been adopted as a symbol for the Libyan rebels, though I am concerned about undue weight here, though -- The article mentions only specific claims like a boy seeing him as an idol, and the rebels setting up a commission to remake a memorial to him. Omar Mukhtar is Sunni OR Ibadi
Ibadi it was distributed and famous in westren of Libya from sirte to Ras jader and Nafosa mountains, So the east Libyan consider Sunnis as I know, and I have a book "الشيخ الجليل عمر المختار: نشأته، وأعماله، واستشهاده" in page 3 confirms that he is Sunni, But this 88.235.189.105 (have 88.235.165.146 and 88.235.10.127 and 88.235.157.214) removes my edits and says Omar Mukhtar Ibadi based on two turkish web sites, the first is a forum and the other is a Blog --albebas (talk) 20:39, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Martyr?
I removed the category Muslim Martyrs from this article. In fact, in English "Martyr" (Meaning: "witness" of some Faith, in this case) is someone who was killed because of a religious persecution and his/her refusal to recant his/her faith. In the case of Mukhtar, he was certainly a hero and a staunch fighter for the independence of Libya, but for sure he was not killed by the Italians because he was a Muslim. In fact, because of political reasons Italian Fascism was rather sympathetic towards Islam. Alex2006 (talk) 09:42, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Date of birth
Hi, two dates of birth are recorded in this article I’m not a scholar so do not know which is correct. The age at death of the subject could therefore be wrong.
