Question from TopTechies (18:52, 13 November 2024)
[edit]Good evening my mentor, I'd be happy to learn how possible it is to copy edit an improper reference link of any tasked in given to do. --TopTechies (talk) 18:52, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @TopTechies In what context? I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 21:42, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
A message from Cooldudeseven7
[edit]I am very sorry for the edit conflict- I was wondering why I received the speedy deletion notification! Jolly editing, Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 18:03, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Cooldudeseven7 No, it's happens. No worries. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 18:05, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- A few questions however- If a user creates a new article (its been less than 60 minutes since the creation) Can I still draftify it because it's in the mainspace? or do I have to CSD it. Thank you Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 18:08, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Cooldudeseven7 We're not supposed to draftify articles that aren't likely to be put back into mainspace. My intuition tells me this draft will never be an article...but that's just my intuition, so it might be a gray area. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 18:13, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oh. I recently draftified an article by the same person (the one that had an edit conflict). Should I undo the move and do a CSD nomination again Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 18:14, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Cooldudeseven7 No. You're fine. Like I said,
it might be a gray area.
I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 18:15, 14 November 2024 (UTC)- Thanks so much! Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 18:17, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Cooldudeseven7 Actually, Espresso Addict just moved the other article to draftspace (which I nom'd for CSD) themself, so maybe you were right. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 18:19, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for informing me + for your help! Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 18:21, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- I tend to think moving to draft is less bitey for new editors, but I might be wrong. I don't think we should leave material in mainspace about living people that is completely unsourced, but maybe I'm IARing? Espresso Addict (talk) 18:24, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Espresso Addict I have a more nuanced view; deleting an article that could get improved to mainspace-quality is pretty BITEy, but draftifying an article with a snowballs chance in Hell in getting to mainspace quality simply adds to the AfC backlog (or the creator just moves it back to mainspace, causing additional issues). Draftifying such an article might be interpreted as dishonest to boot. WP:DRAFTIFY more or less agrees with me; under "Reasons not to move to draftspace," #4 states
There is no chance that the article can be improved to the point that is suitable for mainspace; problems that can't be fixed are reasons for deletion
. - Of course, distinguishing which is which is pretty difficult in practice. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 19:43, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- There's a problem with being an admin responding to speedies, especially on BLPs, that if you decline you leave a clearly unacceptable article in mainspace. I always try to leave a specific message for the creator linking the Teahouse in the hope that they can improve the draft, but experience suggests that often they never edit again. I'd interpret the text that you quote as meaning there was no notability, which imo wasn't the case here. Anyway, feel free to move it back, I won't object. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 20:03, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

Right, hence the draftication. I did say it was a gray-area earlier on in the conversation. Very much a "local politician" vibe. It's enough of a gray-area that I'm not moving it back; likely, they'll get G13'd, which is refundable. - I'm curious, though. How many people start out churning out articles and then actually stick around? I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 20:06, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Poking around there's no article for Mayor of Delhi, but it looks like the predecessor (a woman) has an article: Shelly Oberoi, and Municipal Corporation of Delhi has 20 million inhabitants, so not a small jurisdiction.
- "How many people start out churning out articles and then actually stick around?" There's a decent handful, though most of them are under some sort of sanction now. Arguably in the Wild West Days we all made that kind of article, and then all chipped in to improve, but that's a lot less common now except for Women in Red. Really I ought to try to improve it myself, but somehow the word "Delhi" is putting me off, can't think why. Espresso Addict (talk) 20:18, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

Espresso Addict Aye, the consequence of having more articles on the more obvious topics.
I have memories of UPEs from India in #wikipedia-en-help desperately wanting "their" drafts to be accepted Right Now; of course, paid editors (disclosed or not!) from elsewhere were often desperate as well, but there was an additional language barrier if they came from India, and they were reluctant to admit that English wasn't their native language, or to edit their native language Wikipedia (the English Wikipedia has better SEO). Perhaps you've had similar experiences somewhere?
- I think admins generally receive less begging than AfC reviewers, from worry about the block button presumably (genuine worry, if the Fastily petition is anything to go by). The Indian stuff now all comes in perfect American Marketing Speech, courtesy of Your Neighbourhood AI, which is a bit disconcerting.
- By the way, if you don't mind my asking, did you deliberately decide at some point not to become an admin for some reason? Espresso Addict (talk) 20:37, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

I don't mind. It wasn't so much deliberate and more of a desire to avoid the limelight. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 20:50, 14 November 2024 (UTC)- Alright, thanks for the talk on speedy deletion vs draftify! =) Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 23:35, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
I can't figure out this image
[edit]Hi, you look like you know what you're doing, so if you'd let me know how to properly format the image in the Populair row on List of airlines of Sweden I'd really appreciate it thank you Sandcat555 (talk) 19:53, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Sandcat555 So what I just did is replace "thumb" with "100px."
- The list could use some sources, but that's mostly to prove the airlines actually exist. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 19:57, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! I couldn't find much info on how to format the images on here. All of the airline pages themselves have those sources- should I add them to the list? Sandcat555 (talk) 19:59, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Sandcat555 Makes sense! Perhaps choose one source per airline that's more or less "This airline exists" and add it in with the notes via inline citation. Beforehand, you'll want to add a reference section with {{reflist}} I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 20:02, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- I had a quick look through the airline lists of a few countries and noticed that a lot of them lack many/any references (except for Canada's which has 649) ; would it be worth adding them for all of these lists instead of just Sweden? Sandcat555 (talk) 20:10, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Also; can I use the airline website for this? Sandcat555 (talk) 20:11, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Sandcat555 Probably not ideal (it's not a third party source). If that's the only option, though, I guess. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 20:12, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- I will try to find a better source then. I wasn't sure about that Sandcat555 (talk) 20:13, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

A message from Shinboke55
[edit]Hey, this is Shinboke55. I made an article on Chamber and submitted it, and you left it as as draft.
I added some sources, and here's the thing now. What say you?

- @Shinboke55 That's better. I live the technical review of the article to someone else, because I have a policy of not reviewing articles on request. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 23:01, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
