Alumni
[edit]I am thinking about removing Eric Nicol from the alumni list. I don't think he is notable enough. what do others think? Geedubber 03:08, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- There are over 10,000 Google hits for "Eric Nicol." Here's a short biography: [1]. I'd say he's more notable than any other person listed except Phil Nimmons. Usgnus 03:56, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- 10,000 hits isn't very many. I would have to say he is currently the least notable person on this list. Rebagliati has 31,000 hits plus an Olympic Gold. Pope has 257,000 hits. Stanfield has around 100000 (depending on the spelling) and was a Playboy Playmate. Ball is a sitting politician. Nimmons has an OC and 22000 hits. Stan Douglas has 140000 hits and has showed his work in almost every major gallery in the world.
- Why so keen on removing him? Do you think the article is too long? Usgnus 17:15, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- I hate redlinks, and as an alumni I have never heard of him. Geedubber 21:22, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- Before your time, I guess. I'll remove the link, but I'll add it back in when the article is created, deal? Usgnus 02:44, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

School's stance on wikipedia
[edit]As a graduate of this school I would just like to say that I think it is completely appaling that the librarian actively encourages people to vandalise wikipedia. Not related to anything, but I found it interesting. 142.35.144.2 20:18, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Who's the librarian there now? It is easy to see why so many people are against the concept of Wikipedia. The most remarkable part of Wikipedia is that though the sources and facts cannot be used in direct reference, its a great place to start your research. Many related artiles are helpful and new terminology for you to look for may be mentioned in the article. All subjects are esoteric and we're seeing those same people writing these articles. Vandalism and false facts are common, but equally and more are legitimate, well cited facts and the vandals are being beaten. Mkdw 00:21, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- She really does not like wikipedia bueacse she told my class that we shouldent use it bueacse it isent reliable because it is user contibuted. Bobjr777 18:41, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- She has a very valid point in bringing that up and you should almost never reference Wikipedia in an academic assignment. However, in an article like Vancouver and Hollywood North where a great deal of citations have been provided, Wikipedia becomes a powerful tool. You may then go to those cited sources and either look them up online or in your library. To which you may reference in your work. Wikipedia may also alert you to some new information about a certain topic. For example in the article Art Deco it talks about Cubism. A term I had never associated with Art Deco until I read about it on Wikipedia. It also allows a person to research those side subjects, and you may choose to add them if you find other sources. As a student you could bring this up with her and say its not a source to be cited, but a research tool. Mkdwtalk 11:30, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- Like I keep telling my friends who criticize Wikipedia -- Wikipedia's a great tool for research, but only if you know how to use it (and not reference Wikipedia for academic assignments). -→Buchanan-Hermit™/?! 20:15, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- She's put up anti-wikipedia posters all over the library now. There's got to be at least a dozen for every wall. Zazaban (talk) 06:23, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, well, some of my friends and I countered with a pro-wikipedia poster 3 years ago. It's still there. threecheersfornick (talk) 00:21, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Byngarts mascot.gif
[edit]Image:Byngarts mascot.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
