Tau Mu Tau (ΤΜΤ) is a local sorority at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, United States. It was established in 1904.
History
[edit]Twelve students. founded Tau Mu Tau at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota in 1904.[1] It was originally a college literary society and evolved into having a more social focus.[2] The twelve-member socieity was orginally known as The Modest Twelve.[2] When its membership grew, it changed its named to The Modest Tribe.[1]
The current mission of Tau Mu Tau is to provide an enlightening and enjoyable experience that combines friendship and unity, and integrates the development of values with intellectual and social growth.[3] It is an independent organization that is not affiliated with any national or international organization
In the fall of 2016, the sorority was suspended for violations of the college hazing policy. However, it is active as of 2024.[1]
Symbols
[edit]Tau Mu Tau's motto is "Sisterhood and Diversity". The sorority's colors are maroon and gray.[1] Its symbol is the anchor and its flower is the rose.[4] Its nickname is the TMs.[1]

Activities
[edit]The sorority is active in a number of nonprofit organizations such as SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices in Education).
