Referencing articles

Here is the plan:

1. I reference an article. You inspect it. You tell me you understand what I did.

2. You pick an article from a list. You tell me in detail how you would like to reference it. I approve. You make the edit. I inspect it then allow you to go to step 3.

3. You pick one and reference it on your own. I inspect it then allow you to go to step 4.

4. You pick five more and do them. You stop. I inspect.

If all goes well through step four, you will be on your own to do many of these while I (or we) monitor and advise.

Steps

Step 1

1. I googled ARTICLENAME.
2. I found WEBSITEWEBSITE which looked like a good source.
3. I copied the url.
4. I went to ARTICLENAME and clicked edit.
5. I added <ref>WEBSITEWEBSITE</ref> to the end of the first sentence. I removed the template at the top that said "unreferenced".
6. I added ==References== then beneath that {{reflist}} to the bottom of the article. See Shark River Reef as an example of where that reference section fits in. You are smart. figure it out.
7. I added to the edit summary bar at the bottom: "Add ref and remove unreferenced template"
8. I clicked save. Done.

Step 2

Now it is your turn. Your article name is ARTICLENAME.

1. Using Google News, search the name in quotes like "ARTICLENAME".
2. Click a major newspaper webpage that mentions the subject.
3. Paste the reference you found here to show me what you selected.

Step 3

1. Add the reference you found in step 2 to ARTICLENAME just like I did in step 1.

Step 4

1. Add WEBSITEWEBSITE to User:Anna Frodesiak/Mentoring - Sample article

Step 5

Remember to select the best possible reference. You want one that looks like a major newspaper and does not promote the subject.

Do ARTICLENAME using site:gov
