East Camden is a district of Camden, New Jersey. The population is 26,576. Cramer Hill , Rosedale Village, Wrightsville are located in the area.
Early history[edit]
[edit]What is today known as East Camden, is a district within the city of Camden, and was once a part of Stockton Township, it was not until 1899 was the town properly merged into the city of Camden, notable places that are a part of East Camden include Creamer Hill, villages like Wrightsville, Stockton, Rosedale's, who all run through federal St. East Camden is separated from several parts of the city by like likes of the Cooper River, the Conrail rail lines and route 30. In the late 20th century East Camden's economy experienced a decline as it saw its population decrease and poverty level rise; the downshift of industrialism in the city was the cause of this. East Camden's unemployment rate is lower than the rest of the city.
Demographics[edit]
[edit]According to a 2022 data census, East Camden has a population of 26,576[1] people that resides within the neighborhood. East Camden has a majority of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent. In 1986 the majority of the residents that lived in East Camden were Latino or Hispanic which is way more than half of the area's population. 61.4%[1] of the residents there speak another language aside from English, and 58%[1] of the residents claim Spanish as the language that they speak. 25%[1] of the residents are foreign-born. Of all the residents 10.1% are 65 years old or older.

[edit]The 2022 Census reports that the Median gross rent per household in East Camden is $1,146, 44.6 Percent of residents pay $1,000-1,499, and 36% combined pay less than $500-$999 for rent. 45.4% percent of residents are homeowners, 40.6% of homes average from $50,000-$99,999, and 31% range from $100,000-$149,999 household income is $41,742 this is lower than the New Jersey average of $96,346. There are several abandoned houses, apartments, and poorly maintained houses. Low income and poverty levels in Camden play a big part in Camden's housing problems. There are 26.4% of the population in East Camden suffering from poverty, which is almost three times above the state's average.
Racial distribution[edit]
[edit]According to the 2020 Census, East Camden is mainly a Hispanic community. The community has approximately 18,986 of the residents that are of Hispanic heritage, and 6,559 are of African American Heritage. The African American community makes up 26% of East Camden. The rest of the community is 5% white and 1% Asian.
Education[edit]
[edit]In the 08105 zip code 7.2 percent of the population are able to obtain a bachelor's degree. 31.6% percent obtain a Highschool diplomat 75.2 % of kids that live in East Camden are enrolled in kindergarten to 12th grade. Which is 10% percent higher than the state of NJ 66.5% in general.
East Camden middle-Mastery school
[edit]East Camden middle- mastery school is a charter school that is based in the heart of east Camden which provides enrollments from the 5th grade to 8th grade, the school is located at 3064 Stevens St #2367, Camden, NJ 08105.[2] At East Camden middle Mastery school there are 340 students attending the school. They are the top English schools in Camden for both math and English Language Arts"[2] They provide their students with 'college and career exposure field trips and Support for English language learners.[2] This provides them with exposure to different options they have in the future. They rank 521-696 amongst middle schools in New Jersey.
DR. Henry H Davis family school preK-8

Henry H Davis school a school located in East Camden at 3425 Cramer Street Camden, NJ 08105.[3] Their mission statement is "DAVI"[4] Which stands for Developing self-sufficient learners, aligning with parents and the community, Valuing honesty, respect, perseverance, and compassion, and Incorporating lessons gained from reflective practice. [5] The school is a part of a school system that has about 17 different schools under their umbrella throughout the entire city of Camden. Ranging from Pre-k- 12th grade called Camden city schools. Dr. Henry Hill Davis, whom the school is named after "a Camden Physician. He was a school board member, Camden's first medical inspector, and first Chief medical inspector."[6] The is 99.2% of minorities, 71.2% are Hispanic/Latino and 21.8% are black/African American making them the two most populated in the school. With all their efforts and missions, they do not rank amongst elementary and middle schools in New Jersey.
Eastside High School (home of the tigers)
[edit]East side high school is a high school located in East Camden at 3100 Federal Street Camden, NJ 08105."The mission of Eastside High School is to educate, empower, and enable all students to become caring, contributing citizens who can succeed in an ever-changing world. Eastside High School is committed to focusing on high expectations and individual academic success and to creating a community of respect and responsibility."[7] They focus themselves. educating students and preparing them for life after High school. A lot of the schools that are in Camden Do have programs connected through their schools that helps their students attend Rutgers Camden, other schools, especially the charter school programs that they have. There 514 students attending Eastside High. 252 of their kids receive free lunches."[8]
Business and Economic
East Camden has a "large population of both long-term residents and recent immigrants. The neighborhood itself is largely residential,"[9] Economically East Camden, and Camden as whole faces many challenges economically. Some of their biggest challenges particularly is street and public space maintenance and employment opportunities. Within Camden runs a group called my East Camden Neighborhood plan, with in this group there are "More than 900 East Camden residents, workers, and stakeholders,"[10] which all participated in creating an elaborate plan to help uphold and raise the cities value through various small businesses that will help the city grow economically. Some of the group's main focus include improving housing conditions, renovating, and demolish vacant properties, and encouraging development conditions for more diverse business in existing commercial corridors. Despite the efforts of the local's "data, is that East Camden’s trend has since reversed, experiencing an 8.6% decline in population, while the city experienced a 4.3% decline."[9] More than half of the 7,787 estimated jobs of East Camden residents are either in service or production and transportation." The lack of entrepreneurship and residents with high paying jobs and careers makes it difficult for contribute in their own communities. The highest medium income is about $53,000. There are more small businesses In East Camden than there are businesses profiting in the city.
