Looking for help

[edit]

Hi,

I was looking for some small help. I created a new article en:Kithaab-a play about women rights issues- which has been copy edited and is ready for translation in various languages. Looking for your possible help in translating the article en:Kithaab to your language Urdu and Western Punjabi. If you are unable to spare time yourself then may be you like to refer the same to some other translator.

Thanking you , with warm regards Bookku (talk) 04:05, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for considering me for the task. I will try my best to do so.--سیانف (talk) 05:25, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@ User:سیانف lot of thanks for accepting my request, I look forward to the translations of en:Kithaab in coming weeks. Please feel free to ask whenever you need help about the article.
Following is just for information.
Actually I do have little longer list of articles that needs expansion support but I do not want to over burden or overwhelm you with expectations, Following is the list I am not looking for immediate in long run let following topics too in back of your thought so whenever you come across suitable references you will be able to support those articles.
I have been supporting article expansions of Islamic literature, Islamic advice literature, Islamic feminism, Hermeneutics of feminism in Islam and some more.
Above said review of article will help update and expansion of Draft:Women's rights in Muslim societies
(An article about Draft:Aurat about cultural women (with literary and cultural metaphors and idioms) also was started but since it lacked proactive editorial support got deleted. As and when some one works seriously on ur:عورت may be started again.
Draft:Feminism in Urdu literature which also needs expansion support.
So as discussed of now keenly awaiting translations of of en:Kithaab in coming weeks. You are supporting women rights related articles and It is very nice of you.
Thanks and warm regards Bookku (talk) 13:28, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Currently I am taking part in #WikiGapPakistan which aims to improve the coverage of Pakistani women on Wikipedia (English and Urdu) organized by The Embassy of Sweden in Pakistan with the support of its partners; Digital Rights Foundation, Media Matters for Democracy, UN Women and Wikimedia Sweden.--سیانف (talk) 13:38, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Gap is truly too big but I don't want to burden you with the whole list at one go, What you are doing is a very good begining on your part, best wishes and thanks. Bookku (talk) 16:15, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

One more request

[edit]

Greetings once again,

First of all thanks for your contribution to the article Shirkat Gah.

There is some good effort on important topic by a new user got stuck due to copyright issues. It seems article needs to be built up again from scratch, but looking at importance of the subject for Woman in Pakistan, I wish article does not get deleted as far as possible.

Please do visit and expand Talk:Women related laws in Pakistan/Temp if you find topic interested in.

Thanks and warm regards

Bookku (talk) 06:12, 10 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has some very specific rules regarding creation of any new articles. I, myself, is a new user on English Wikipedia and still in learning process and trying to imporove my mistakes every day. I will suggest, one must go through those rules and try to follow them. A page, written after following those rules, hardly see any deletion problem.--سیانف (talk) 10:15, 10 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Being new you seem to have some misunderstanding. I have rewritten @ Talk:Women related laws in Pakistan/Temp following all the rules. If you and others join in it will certainly add value. Mistakes keep happening from new comers it's okay we need to collectively over come them. Bookku (talk) 10:38, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I recently participated in a campaign named "Wikigap" which is about reducing the gender gap on Wikidpedia. When I started the campaign, "Women related laws in Pakistan" was mentioned to be created in the list suggested by the reviewers. I wanted to make this article as my top priority but I knew, it needs extensive amount of reading, research and time to collect all the relavant and necessary information related to the topic. So I kept it pending. Without enough reading and infomration, it is difficult for me to work on any topic. I hope you understand. I know the topic you are asking me to work upon is very important one but I need time to read for this, myself first. I do not favour copyright violation in haste, in any article. Take time, write and rewrite before publishing to the Wikipedia.--سیانف (talk) 15:04, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

 • Hi, Greetings once again, I am happy I could rewrite and rescue article Women related laws in Pakistan, and thanks you too have made some updates to it. I am also thankful to you for creating article Shirkat Gah.
 • As I earlier requested I would be looking for your help in getting women's rights related article Kithaab translated to Urdu language Wikipedia, if you find the article interesting.

Sure. Let me try.--سیانف (talk) 15:31, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Jonathan Deamer. I noticed that you recently removed content from Aurat March without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Splitting of Aurat March article

[edit]

Greetings,

It seems you want to split article Aurat March to Aurat Azadi March. But exactly it is not clear if that is what you want to do, Pl. do elaborate a little.

Bookku (talk) 15:11, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

These are two different marches organized by different groups that is why I tried to split.--سیانف (talk) 15:16, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Many Thanks, I suppose if you add same explanation in Aurat March article as you have given in Aurat Azadi March and in edit summary that you are forking info to newly forked article then other editors will not get confused.

Warm regards Bookku (talk) 16:14, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Some concerns

[edit]

Greetings,

1)
Mandatory attribution: When we are copying from one Wikipedia article to another Wikipedia article, We are supposed to give an attribution to edit history of earlier article in the edit summary,(This is very important formality )
For example recently I did split article Black Sea and created new article Black Sea drainage basin and copy pasted content from various 'river' articles.
Every time I included following type of attribution in edit summary
Copy pasting from Black Sea  ; Pl. see history of Black Sea for attributions.
Detail rules are mentioned @ Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia
One more example, when yesterday I copy pasted content to Draft:Love in Pakistan I gave attributions to various articles like "Copy pasting from Heer and Ranjha ; Pl. see history of Heer and Ranjha for attributions" (By the way, I would be happy if you can help expand Draft:Love in Pakistan)
So in your case edit summary attribution can be like ""Copy pasting from Aurat March ; Pl. see history of Aurat March for attributions"
Are you expected to give attribution to previous Copy pasted content I suppose yes, not doing so will unnecessarily give chance to some one who wants to delete content under pretext of rules.

2)
Content shifting
I do understand your good intentions of article splitting and content shifting From Aurat March to Aurat Azadi March; I do not know if at all you have read some recent discussion @ Talk:Aurat March
As of now most people are unaware of nuanced difference between Aurat March and Aurat Azadi March that is evident from page views. For example in last 20 days article Aurat March had average 1023 page views per day totaling up to 21,482 views; Where as article Aurat Azadi March had just 19 views per day totaling up to just 400 views in last 20 days.
A) Even those who are doing disinformation they are not necessarily doing disinformation of Aurat Azadi March but they would intend to do disinformation of all the progressive Aurat Marchers. B) When you shift content related to disinformation to Aurat Azadi March, most readers will not be reaching there and end of the day marching women continue to suffer from disinformation.
I am not against separate article for Aurat Azadi March or suitable content shifting, but what I would sincerely suggest is to keep/treat/maintain Aurat March as main article and continue to have a separate section related to Aurat Azadi March including small summary about disinformation part of it.

Requesting you to take above concerns in to account, when you get free please do help expand new article Draft:Love in Pakistan and Draft:Pawri Ho Rahi Hai

Thanks and warm regards

Bookku (talk) 03:45, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies from my side for not being able to read and follow rules properly. I think you are right about the merger of the two articles and keeping a seperate section of Aurat Azadi March. The reason I shifted the misinformation part to the Aurat Azadi March because the legal smear campaigns were against Islamabad's organisers and participants of Aurat Azadi March.--سیانف (talk) 07:12, 27 March 2021 (UTC) For now, I moved back most of the material to Aurat March and tried to improve the Aurat Azadi March page. Have a look.--سیانف (talk) 09:11, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @ سیانف,
If you read my point 8 @ Talk:Aurat March & above discussion, I am not suggesting merger but continue having a separate small section of Aurat Azadi March in Aurat March and develop article Aurat Azadi March more on basis of those academic and news sources which are themselves properly aware and clear about difference between sources Aurat Azadi March and Aurat March because may be you and very few people will be clear about exact difference and which thing is about which march on those clear source continue to develop Aurat Azadi March.
Thanks and warm regards Bookku (talk) 10:52, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A new reference book

[edit]

Greetings @ سیانف

I happened to come across following new reference book by Sarah Waheed focusing on leftist political history of Pakistan, seems interesting good read. Book preview is available on Google books and I suppose, might help you in your encyclopedic editing on Wikipedia for various details.

Taking new articles to the WP mainpage

[edit]

Greetings @ سیانف

Just gone by March month was first time for me to suggest new article Women's World (Ottoman magazine) (in a way first feminist magazine in Muslim world) for 'Do you know section' on Wikipedia main page. The whole effort was helped out by other editors and it was an interesting experience.

When one writes new articles we need to apply for Main page Do you know process within seven days with some new interesting information from new article written by us.

I wish you also try since you write new articles with some new info first time for international audience.

Happy editing

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

 • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
 • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
 • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
 • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
 • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the template.
