Final (47/0/0); Origianlly scheduled to end 19:56, 13 November 2007 (UTC). Nomination successful. --Deskana (talk) 21:43, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Spellcast (talk · contribs) - It's with great pleasure I'm able to offer Spellcast to the community to serve as an administrator. since joining us in January 2007, he's got over 12,000 edits and has done some great work on 50 Cent and The Game (rapper) (not my favourite choice of music, but I won't hold it against him!). His admin experience is second to none; His tagging of pages for speedy deletion is excellent, and he always warns users that their article is going to be deleted, at least giving them an opportunity to improve the article so it meets the relative notability guidlines. At the time of this nom, he has a massive 451 edits to AIV, and I'm always confident that when I see his name against a report that it will lead to a block - I'm sure you would all agree that giving Spellcast the tools would lighten the load a bit for the current admins. In deletion discussions, I can see that spellcast is very knowledgeable about policy and would be excellent at determining the consensus in these. I can see that he will be an excellent sysop and I ask that you support this request. Ryan Postlethwaite 18:38, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Questions for the candidate
[edit]Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
- A: Aside from articles, my biggest contributions involve AIV reports, AfD debates, applying speedy deletion tags, and proposed deletions. So I intend to patrol new reports to AIV and CSD, close AfDs older than five days, and delete uncontested PRODs. I also plan to clean out the image backlogs, especially Category:Orphaned fairuse images and Category:Rescaled fairuse images. With that being said, I intend to continue producing good articles.
- 2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- A: We are providing a free encylopedia, so I'm big on article writing. My best work is expanding four pages into good articles including 50 Cent, Through the Wire, and In da Club. The Documentary is also a current GA candidate. I've read that only 5000 of Wikipedia's two million articles have some sort of quality control, so the best I can do is write about topics I'm knowledgeable about. There are my 100+ image uploads with seven being acquired through copyright permission (and three currently awaiting response from the OTRS team). There is also my AIV and AfD contributions but article building is definitely one of the most satisfying things you can do here.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: No-one has ever caused me so much stress that it escalated into an RFC or third opinion. But you can't make over 6000 mainspace edits and not have some kind of content dispute. I've had disagreements but never a conflict that couldn't be resolved by talking with the person. That's not say it can't get irritating at times. One of the most difficult areas of Wikipedia is maintaining upcoming albums and discographies of mainstream pop/rap musicians. Too many people have a disregard for formatting or aren't familiar with citing sources. As a result, you come across things like poorly formatted tables, unsourced record sales, and fake track listings. Those pages always need long-term maintenance to make sure it's up to scratch.
- 4. You see that another administrator has blocked an editor and you disagree with the block. What is the policy about unblocking and do you intend to adhere to it?--MONGO 07:04, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- A: The policy on unblocking is given in WP:BLOCK#Unblocking and WP:WW is also relevant. The first step to a wheel war is one admin undoing the actions of another without discussion, so I won't revert the block. The controversial cases are where blocks are undone without discussion. So I will immediately bring up the issue with the admin on his/her talk page and if we still disagree, I will bring it up at the administrators' noticeboard where I will attempt to gain consensus to unblock. Prevention is better than cure and the last thing we want is one of these depressing discussions.
