Advancing progress on a scan

Gday. When proofreading, do feel that you can advance the proofreading status of a text from not proofread (red) to proofread (orange) if you believe that the text is correct. This allows the next proofreader to then move a text to validated (green). — billinghurst sDrewth 13:23, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

I have created Clinton, William Henry (DNB00) so you can see how the procedure works. There is markup on the first and last pages (of two, in this case); and I have used this template filled in:

{{subst:DNBset |article= Clinton, William Henry |previous= Clinton, Henry Pelham Fiennes Pelham |next= Clipstone, John |contributor = Henry Manners Chichester |wikipedia = William Henry Clinton |extra_notes= |volume = 11 |from= 105 |to= 106 |section= Clinton, William Henry }}

The Mysterious Header button

If you have your toolbar turned on, you will see . This button toggles the header on and off, which is where we use {{RunningHeader}} for things like {{RunningHeader|Stanhope|3|Stanhope}}

I personally have mine set to open in the Page: namespace by turning on that option in my gadgets. — billinghurst sDrewth 10:10, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Some few DNB things

On line breaks: you may find it worthwhile to look at Wikisource:WikiProject DNB/Raw materials#Way of working, for hints on how to clean up text in a text editor (e.g. word processor) by doing some find-and-replace passes. This can save plenty of time in longer articles. User:Ww2censor went in and did some work on the Stanhope article.

I did some things also, setting up the author page and volume ToC links to it. As for the header, there was one routine change (the (DNB00) suffix is supplied automatically), and one special one (overprev is a special header field used to link back to the volume before). For me, the "previous" and "next" refer to the previous and next whole articles, rather than the non-biographical items that occur. Now I think not everyone perhaps agrees with that, and where someone has actually created a page for items such as "Stanhope, Lady" I wouldn't divert links away from it; but where the page doesn't exist I think the reader would be helped more by linking to the previous/next article title.

Not at all bothered by the clean up I expected it, in fact I was looking forward to it. Trying to create this article was quite an experience in itself; bouncing back and forth from finished articles I don't know how many times before I utilized the "noinclude" function and was finally able to experience a desired result before saving. I intend to work on all of the Stanhopes for no particular reason other than experience sake. Very pleased to see Ww2censor's input. Thanks. Daytrivia (talk) 21:52, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
