Description
English: Oval half-length formal portrait of Scottish naturalist and ornithologist, William MacGillivray (1796 – 1852) in middle age. He is wearing formal dress with black bow tie and academic robes, presumably in his role as Professor of Natural History at Marischal College, Aberdeen, which he took up in 1841, making this the most likely date for the work. The painter is unknown. Collection of the University of Aberdeen.
